Thats AWSOME! I am not sure which VAM it is and I dont want to steal SuperDave's thunder to actually search for which VAM it actually is, it looks like a clash under the "1" like from dentical of the reverse or something, the other parts I am unsure about (actually I am unsure about the part I just said). SuperDave is the 1921 expert, but I do want to say, if he doesn't answer tomorrow I will do some reasearch on it myself but it could very well be a discovery coin because there are some being discovered about every day. I am rather busy searching this 1878-S VAM-17 that could possibly be a VAM-17A which only 5 are known to exist right now and will be posting pictures here in just a few minutes to see what others think, but after I have gotten to the finish line of this coin and if SD hasn't chimed in, I will try and find an answer for you

Oh there is a work in progress here http://vamworld.wikispaces.com/Morgan+VAMs+By+Date just click on the date and mint mark you want to search for and see if the specific VAM you are looking for is listed, if you are not sure which VAM you have look at all that is listed for that specific date/mm and maybe you will get lucky. Just remember this is a relatively new site and a work in progress so keep checking back because more VAM's are being added allot

I have added a few pictures of VAM's there myself on that site and hopefully one day it will have every known VAM on there but that is going to take awhile. What is good about it is everyone can register with wikispace and they can also add their VAM's they have in their possession if its not already listed (which will help get them all). Just remember its not a what VAM is this site, it is for known VAM's, so dont add pictures of a coin that you think is something but Leroy hasn't attributed it with a description of what you think the attributes are, it is for KNOWN VAM's only!!

The last photo is real interesting. Imagine that if a die mistake is made and caught, the mint might try to rid the die of the error. (File, abraid, grind, relap, and or polish out). Most of what I can see appears to be die wipe from polish. However, you may have something hiding in there that they tried to get rid of and did not completely eliminate. They are sneaky that way. Thanx for sharing. Gusp

I suspect the star is post-mint, but I'd like to know where the feature in the first pic is located.

It is between the 3rd and 4th star on the right, but I can't get a close up of it, in relation to the whole coin, Image: i-2.jpg13.43 KB it is pretty small as you can see on this photo.

Odd. Foreign-object clash, maybe? It's in the wrong location for a die clash, and I've heard of no dropped-letter clashes so far in Morgans. Sure looks raised to me, though.
