Although not really visible in the obverse photo, in hand, the top of each number of the date, is visible and discernible as 1877. Also, some parts of legend visible. swcoin.ecrater.com

FR2 to me. The obverse carries more weight and even though the reverse is AG3, the coin looks FR2.

FR2 IMO the coin is remarkably problem free and actually very attractive despite the heavy wear.

Very high eye appeal for a FR2, worth just a bit less than AG3 in my book.

I don't think you have enough of the date visible to get an AG3, though the reverse is definitely stronger and may even be close to G4. Fr2

It's funny to be saying this, but I agree that it is a FR02 coin with great eye appeal.

A "problem-free" aesthetically pleasing FR-02 (and I can make out some of the tops of the 7's in the photo!)

AG-3 because the core design is intact and the reverse is G-4 or so. I believe a coin should have to have some of the main design obliterated by wear, not necessarily just the peripheries. This is the 'classic' definition of below AG-3 grade but most TPG's don't seem to follow it.

When I get back home, I'll post PCGS's grade, as well as my thoughts. Thanks everyone!

Very nice FR02. I can't see it going higher than this with so little obverse detail, but it has incredibly nice surface quality.

Thanks Johnny. That's one of the reasons I bought it. So many lower grade 77's have often pitted or corrosion issues.

Here is the PCGS grade: I also agree it has nice original surfaces. The reverse is technically a G4, but the obverse wear is far too great to call this an AG3.

Yeah I knew it was going to grade Fair, even if it doesn't meet the real definition for a FR-2 grade. I think according to the TPG's FR = slightly more worn AG and PR = much more worn AG
