How many of you had a store and closed it or closing it. I had one and closed it . I was selling much easier through the auction anyhow. Any thoughts from other people.

I don't know much about all of this other than common sense, but I would think by closing the store , will also help keep big brother of your back

Sharktoy, if you recall, the announced reason ebay jacked up its Store fees was to force sellers back into traditional auction mode where ebay can command higher Final Value and auction fees. I am not certain if this is a good move on ebay's part since a LOT of sellers like Bobby and Susan will be forced out of the store business. I am also not certain that ebay's desired end of a higher bottom line and, hence increased stock value (which has gone into the toilet over the past 21 months) will be achieved. ebay has an image problem and it's high time it acknowledges this fact. Yes, I believe you will sell much easier and better from an auction than a store. Most people I know run from a store like the plage. Some reasons are higher shipping, and not all stores really what they say they are. Even if it cost a little more to sell in an auction you will sell allot more. Mike

Hi, I thought of closing my ebay store once the fee increase kicked in, but decided that the small price was worth paying in order to maintain a professional image... Peter

Perspective is amazing. Most of the world class coin dealers won't stand next to you if they know you sell on ebay.

Most of the "world class" ancient coin dealers I know actually sell on ebay themselves, lol. Peter

I had a store and closed it. Nobody would really hit on it, although all prices were below wholesale price. But I am about done with ebay in general. Granted it is still a great place when you are trying to find that hard to find item, I have never bought a coin on there, nor have I had great luck selling. Local auctions is where I come out the best. If I can't get RedBook price out of any given coin, something is wrong. It's ridiculous what some people will pay. I have been the main supplier for one of the local auctioneers. For the longest time, everything in there was pure junk. But when I starting putting in, I had some good stuff. UNC Morgans, real Trade dollars, semi-keys and keys of the heavily collected (Morgans (The later 80's S-mints), Lincolns (09 S, 14 D's), Mercury dimes (16'D, the 21's). The turnouts of been the largest he has had, and with large turnouts brings more bidders, which in turn drives the prices up. The only thing I have not had luck with were some better grade (XF-ish) bust quarters. With such a limited collector base, they just don't go. So I am pretty much done with ebay, and just stick with local auctions and some friends I have acquired along the way when I have stuff to sell. Jordan
