I have seen online that there are plenty of replicas being produced of the Massachusetts 1776 Liberty and Virtue coin. I found one of these coins in a box that my parents used to store things but I cannot tell if it is genuine or not.

I took two photos but they are not the best quality. Maybe they are decent enough to know if the coin is real or fake before going to a coin collector. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks!

I have the same replica and am almost %99.99 sure yours is a replica as well. If you look around the rim and see if there is any of the "copper" flaking off then you know for sure it aint legit.

Your Colonial Massachusetts Copper is merely a copy of the unique original coin housed in the Smithsonian's Numismatic collection. If this was real, which I am 150% it is not, it would be worth 7-8 figures at auction. It's cool keepsake though. Even the copies are kind of hard to come by.

That coin is a replica. But its definitely a cool coin to have. I even saw this one on an episode of Pawn Stars. Guy thought it was real and wanted like a million bucks for it. haha. Thats right, I watch too much TV.

I'm with the others on this one. The cost would be prohibitive if it were real. Sorry for the bad news. Was that the only coin you found?

if you look on the side of the coin with the tree and the initials IC LM you will see the two gashes to the bottom right of the M in the initials. right where those gashes are were made there was once a stamped word reading "COPY" it is for sure a replica
