Is your lighting cutting through the patina? I seems like it should be darker given the wear level.

VF-30 - maybe lightly cleaned awhile ago and retoned? Or could just be the picture/lighting as BadThad says.
Nice condition for a scarce coin!

Looking at your other 1909-S, I think I might just be seeing a little grain in the planchet...

I don't think I got the lighting quite right. I'm not getting that "cleaned" vibe with this one. It looks completely natural in hand. I'll see about getting some more pics of it shortly.

Try backing off the light a bit. Pretty funny, most folks have a problem with not enough light. LOL

Yea, better!
Now...you'll probably ignore me, lol....but....try cutting back the exposure a little and switch to a white background. I know black makes the coin look "sexier", but white provides a realistic point of reference for the viewer. I suspect the coin is a bit darker in hand under normal light than in the pics.

What a great coin. I don't mind circulated 1909 S coins or other early keys in that condition one bit. Don't have many but the 1909 S has been on my want list. I think yours is a very nice VF30 too.

OH...I might say this coin is an EF-40 now, it's soooooooo close. These 09-S's often have some funky strikes. The last one I had graded people were guessing EF to AU and it came back MS-62. LOLOLOLOL I have no idea what the SanFran Mint was doing in 1909 because the dies were fresh, but they seemed to produce some odd coins when compared to Philly.
If you can find a dealer that will send it in for you for $25, I'd have it slabbed. If it gets EF-40 it'd be at least a $200 coin.

VF25 and could be the S/ horiz. S repunched mintmark. Kinda hard to tell with the images provided.
