I have the chance to buy 15 rolls of Buffalo nickels for $15 each. All are machine wrapped and I have no idea of what is in them as far as dates, mmarks, etc. Comes out to 35 cents per coin. It's a gamble, could be something decent and could be that half of them are dateless -I just don't know, and the seller says he doesn't know either.

What do you guys think? Should I leave it alone?

Can you buy a couple .. check them out. then see if you want the rest.
Or do you have to buy them all?

If the seller doesn't know than how do you know they're all Buffalo nickels?

I wouldn't want to be stuck with a ton of dateless buffalos
unless you like to play around with restorations, which some do, and I see the allure.
The guy should let you look at a roll or 2 if he wants to make the deal.
Can you get some history on them? Knowing where they came from may help
with the decision. Is a good price regardless, unless they are largely culls.

THank you all........I will talk to the owner and see if I can glean anything that will change my mind. (which is no as of right now) I can buy 1 or all 15, my choice.

As it stands now, he guarantees that they are all buffaloes, but that's it. And the rolls don't look very old, so I'm leary.
Rest in Peace

Sounds to me like he's claiming they're unsearched without actually saying so. Caveat emptor!

I would buy one roll just to check it out. If worst comes to worst and you wind up with 40 dateless buffalos for $15, your not all that bad off imho.

As already noted just another UNSEARCHED coin story. Gee I have rolls of all Wheat Cents but I never looked at them. Parent left me a bag of coins and all are Mercury dimes but I never looked at them.
And on and on and on with all the silly stories.

I bought a roll of full dates off the bay for $8 which came to $11 after shipping. They are not my thing really but I wanted some to give away and to look at of course.

well, they are still available after being for sale for awhile so apparently everyone else is standing back as well....have not gotten ahold of him yet, so as of right now I'm going to pass on it.
