interest New Member Australia 8 Posts	Posted 01/03/2011 06:20 am I have been lead to believe that there are fakes of this coin. Do the fakes have the "Die Crack" that extends from the rim through D as in DOL, up to & through the olive branch. as per the image. How do you tell fakes of this coin? DIE CRACK Any information would be greatly appreciated Any guesses as to the worth of this coin? Report this Post to the Staff

Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6381 Posts	Posted 01/03/2011 10:59 am Hopefully you did not purchase this as a real coin. If you did you should contact the seller and try to get your money back. I'd speculate that fake dies were generated from a real Seated dollar and that coin had a die crack which was replicated on the new die. Many duplicate dies could have been created, with a variety of dates engraved on them. The date digits are often the easiest marker for detecting counterfeits. A real example in this grade would be worth around $500. Report this Post to the Staff

interest New Member Australia 8 Posts	Posted 01/03/2011 9:26 pm This is how the Cancer of fake coins spread! I have never intentionalyy bought a fake coin, but yet I now have one. I live in Australia, I bought two pages of World Coins, only cost me $10.00. (see image) Lots of American coins, includeing the 1865 dollar & the 1921 dollar. The 1921 dollar is real, it is heavier & the metal looks & feels different. When you hit the 1921 with another coin you get a "TINK" but when you hit the 1865 with another coin you get a "CLUNK" The date is a definite give away compared to the real coin. The Die Crack & chip out of the rim made me hope that it was real. As you can see there is no "COPY" stamped on coin. I was going to on sell it through ebay.
