I recently got this O-minted Liberty Seated half dollar and I am having a hard time determining the date. I believe it is either an 1843 or 1847. What are your thoughts?

I see a '7', but then, I see things.

I was thinking a '7" as well until I rechecked an 1843 versus 1847 SL Half.

The 7 has a much more prounced bulge in the middle of the cross bar on the top of the 7.

I now think the coin posted is an 1843 since the cross bar on the 4th digit is straight across (like the 3).

Good detective work by Moe!

I also think it is an 1843 - the "1" is fatter on the 1843 and matches as well.

Thanks for the input. I am definitely leaning towards 1843 now. The 1 seems to match the 1843 coin much better, especially at the top. The 8 looks fatter on the 1847 than mine, too.

Thanks for posting the photos, Moe!

I change my vote to '43.The top of the three is straight and the top of the seven has a little dip to it.

Looks like the top of the 3 to me as well. It also looks like a little of the curve of the 3 is visible as well.

Good catch KenKat! I didn't even notice that!

I think it's unanimous!

I think it's a 3 even before I saw the comparison coins, and after wards, I'm certain.
Rest in Peace

I agree with 1843.

Right when I seen the picture, that was my thought.
