I'm looking for opinions on a general circulation coin, no oddballs or varieties, just date and mint mark that you might find in change. Exclude any pre-64 silver issues.

The scarce or rare coins that get issued are often only found to be scarce or rare some considerable time after they have been issued, sometimes even years later. Mint errors are always worth looking for. You need to be a regular CCF viewer to learn what the error coins are that you can look for.
Very low mintage issues, but by dint of their low issue number, are very difficult to locate. To find what they are, look at mintage records and also be a regular viewer of the CCF, if the mintage numbers for a particular coin issue are yet to be published.

....... Both the 2009 P & D Jefferson nickels are an extremely low mintages and very hard to find "in the wild". Initially, they were selling for VERY NICE PREMIUMS ON ebay TOO !The 2009 Dime also was pretty low.......these are the "most recent circulation" issues that I can think of to look for.

Quote:http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-P-JEFFERSO...em2eb1d14a05If this is legit, this looks like an unbeatable price for a MS70 Jefferson nickel. First, this is NOT legit. SGS is notorious for grading all coins MS70 regardles of grade. Second, this coin is satin finish. Not what you would find in circulation. Satin coins are from mint sets 2005-2010 and typically have higher grades then 'business strike' coins found in circulation.

captainkurk said it all. actually all you needed to say was SGS that the letters is enough to make any real collector click the back button. I know when I see it I click back quicker than I can take my drawers off on a good Friday night

lol, yeah if the slab says sgs, then you can assume the grade is about 4 grades too high.

Yeah....... EVERYBODY'S "SATINS" would grade decent by ANY company first of all..... Quote: original question......I'm looking for opinions on a general circulation coin, no oddballs or varieties, just date and mint mark that you might find in change The original implied assumption here for me was "Business Strikes", which of course could NOT be Satin Finish junk.A nice graded biz. strike is much harder to find than a nice grade Satin broken from a Set ,.... regardless of who graded it ! When it was a "hot commodity", and it first became apparant that the Mint wasn't going to mint any more P or D Jeffersons....I seem to remember somebody on CCF saying that ebay prices were CRAZY for these. Like $30.00, just for a biz. strike unslabbed/ungraded. Now, obviously the "bubble" will have burst on these quite a ways back I'm sure........but nonetheless.....they're the ones to seek "in the wild" of the most modern issues.

I have to disagree about the 2009 nickels. I roll search a box of nickels and although I don't keep track of the 2009s, I easily find 20-30 per box. Granted, they're not always in the best of conditions, but at a guesstimate I would say half have full steps and would grade AU. I don't pay real close attention to the mintmarks on these either, but being in Texas, probably 95% are Denver.

I think I have found one or two P's, and about four D's in about 8 boxes searched over the last few months.Despite your lucky findings......these 2009's are the lowest mintage since what ? ...... World War Two or so I believe. Seriously...... I'll take any you don't want Waredu , regardless of condition ! .... PM me if you have a need to get all of those '09's out of Texas and would rather they had a new home up North here in Kansas !We're '09 Jefferson deprived up here ! .....

What about the President 2009 Pennies? (LP4's) They seem a little hard to come by and the mintage is relatively low.

And they were not saved anywhere near as heavily as the 2009 coins. Should give you so idea of the future price potential of the 2009's.

yeah in '09 they minted over a billion pennies, but since there were 4 different kinds that made each of them have way less of a mintage. but yes while roll searching I found quite a few of the log cabin ones, but the others were all scarce.
