Kinda tough to tell from that scan. Did you compare it to https://www.coppercoins.com? Looks like it could be a 1985D-1MM-001. Either that or split copper plate with zinc showing through. Is there any silver showing?

Lol, It does look like a scan. I really need to work on my shooting skills. Beleive it or not I took that shot on a 15.1 MP Cannon DSLR with a 58mm filter. Can't see any silver through the 10x loupe, but still seems like I need a little more close up, so can't be totally sure. I checked out the sight, thnks. Kinda looks like the 003 or 004. I can only see the extra on the bottom and right outside, not much in the center.

The way to get really close up to a coin for shooting with a camera like yours is with a 100mm or better 'macro' lens. They are quite pricy, but that's what works.

On the coin, I can't tell for sure whether there might be a repunched mintmark hiding amongst the split plating around the mintmark, but I can tell you at least some of what's going on there is worthless split plating.

ok, I'm assuming that is what it is. It actually looked like a die break or something to me, but thought it was strange the way it followed the D so wanted to post for the pro's just to make sure. Still not real familiar with matching I.D.'s with the terms. thought about trying to pick some cheap versions of the different varieties on e-bay or something just so I have a reference, but then again it's e-bay. I may buy something that is listed improperly. I think once I see some of this stuff in my hand things will start to click.
