Grabbed this, a couple of other Barber quarters and a few Walkers for melt, got home, took a closer look at this coin, and... found an S mint mark ... centered :) Not bad for $5.30. Another good find from my new favorite B&M. What do you think?   Edited by canadanz

Would you tell the dealer that you pulled this out of the junk bin? Just for conversations sake, or just leave it?

I'd just be a loyal repeat customer and continue to check the bulk silver for more choice picks. No reason to gloat about how the dealer overlooked something.  |

nice, and a very scarce variety.
The centered MM on this date is very scarce, I have searched for them for years, and only one in about every 100 are the centered MM.
Great find, and an even better price.

Inspired by your example I checked the Barber quarter bin at my local shop and found a 1895-S in G-4 (mm far right). Not as great a find as the '97-S but I'll keep checking! |

The 1897-S is becoming a tough coin to find especially without any problems. Nice find!
