I really like your definition of saving money, nohope. I'm going to keep that one in mind next time I'm trying to rationalize one of my purchases. I'm no grader and so won't offer an opinion. Just wanted to say it's a beautiful coin. 1865 ! Imagine the stories that coin could tell from back then in the final year of the Civil War. Price comes in second.

Love Civil War era coinage and that's a sweet 2 Cent piece! Please blow the lint/dust off that beauty with compressed air.

Since you are the one I always look to answer about these things, what do you grade it?

The 2x2 was labeled MS64 by the seller. I have found he has a tendency to be on the generous side on his grading but he is not adverse to customers who have differing opinions. The 2x2 was also labeled $165.
I graded it MS62 Brown and compared it to a PCGS MS62 I had with me. I always take a grade set with me these days as I find its the quickest way to convince a seller his grading might be in error. I paid $110 for the coin. I did ask if there was anything special about it as he had several lower grade pieces labeled RPD and DD. He said no, so I did not feel the need to point out the variety even thought the diagnostics are fairly obvious even to the naked eye.
I should never have gone to the show as my new years resolutions truly to save money but I am glad I did as it filled one of the holes in my variety set and with a nice example this time.
