Another member (Ricardo) posted this in the finds thread. His pics are a bit small, but what do you think? I thought heat or acid at first, but the reverse looks fairly normal. My gut is PMD.

is it only on the date and motto or is it on the bust too?

you've seen mine, it has the WHOLE coin, motto, date, liberty, and bust doubled. I don't think this is one.

probably not PMD, though, must be something else

Hard to tell from the images as they are too small. But it could be struck through a capped die very late die stage (generic). You can see where the Memorial could be on the reverse. Hard to tell what is going on with this one though.

While its appearance is a bit odd, it was most likely struck through a rotated, late-stage die cap. I don't know any other error (or any form of post-strike modification) that produces widespread, normally-oriented incuse design elements. I suspect the odd appearance is just due to being heavily circulated.

AdamE. I did see yours and is a heck of coin (amazing) ,mine have the same kind of doubling but is not a triple die like yours !
for you guys who asked about lincoln's head , the bust is not double ,actualy the Lincoln image is in a very weak strike seems to be duo a planchet defect ( observe surface have 2 waves waffle kind across the coin )Could be maybe a strike trough something what made the waves ?
