I think it is, but I'm not sure. I don't have coin in hand. Edited by upstate 01/31/2011 12:16 pm

Are you meaning an 1864 L? If so, it doesn't look like it, because the nose looks rounded. The 1864 w/o L has a rounded nose. The 1864 W/ L has a more pointed nose

i have never heard the "rounded nose" however, I have heard of the rounded "bust line".
the 1864 L has a more pointed bust line than does one with out the L

To my eyes, your first 1864 looks like a pointed bust--in other words the "L" version.

I also was thinking your first one posted looks like a pointed bust. It does seem to be in a high enough grade, I would think you would be able to see the "L"

Agreed, the first coin pictured looks to be an 1864L b/c of the pointed bust, the second appears to have a rounded bust. If it's Cu/Ni it should be more valuable than the bronze 1864.

I agree on the first coin. Looks like an L to me.

I stand corrected. It does look like the 1864 L. I was getting my self reveresed while I was at work.
First does look like an L because of the bonnet

Yep, the first coin is an 1864-L. It's a high enough grade that you should be able to see the L with the naked eye and strong with a loupe. I have a VF example where the L is still fully visible.
