Thinking about adding a page to my LMC album for all the satin mint set releases. Seems that since it is now a closed set I should add these...for posterity. I know a lot of people do not like the satins but it feels like they should be included in a complete set? Anyone have any thoughts?

If you are completing a set with all issues - then the satins are a part of a complete set.
If you are completing a set of circulation strikes plus proofs - then the satins are not a part of the set.

I have done that with Sacagawea dollars is to include the satin finishes in with my collection. So I say add them to your Lincoln cents with a little notation that they were special made only in the mint sets. Is that 2005-09? I am guessing.

I am one of the few that likes the satins. I have always used mint sets to fill my albums. Satin coins are made for the collectors. When you have a album that says it is for P and D coins, how can you say it is not ok to put the satin coins in the album.
Satin coins seem to be higher grade coins, than the business strike coins that were in the previous mint sets. I believe the mint put out the satin coins because of the complaints of the quality of coins.
Over the years I have seem many albums where collectors put proof or SMS coins in the pre 1968 Philadelphia slot. To me the satin coins are the same as that .. just a choice.
Look at 7070 type sets .. how many people have at least one proof coin in the set. Nothing says to put a proof ...SMS.. or a satin .. you choose what to put in your set.
I do think many people get the impression about what makes an official set. If I am wrong and there is something that states these rules .. please let me know where I can read and learn from it.

Great attitude goldrush! My set will be bussiness strikes with the proofs. Satins have their own page. Also have a page for varieties DDO's Cam, WAMs RPMs...you get the picture. Yotie I get their are no rules. Just have to check myself once in a while...tend to get obsesive about Lincolns.

I started to do that with my Albums some time ago. I put them in a separate page at the rear. However, with the now millions of 2009's (slight exageration) in my Albums, not room for to many pages. I use Whitman Albums and the Cent ones only have room for about 9 pages. So I starte a separate Album called PROOFS and now that is slowing filling up too.

amida17 Sounds like you got a good plan. The most important thing about collecting is to be happy with what your doing.

If you are completing a set of circulation strikes plus proofs - then the satins are not a part of the set. I could not have summarized this better. As most have said above, it is a personal choice. If the idea of adding the page and filling it excites you, then go for it! Do not let anything get in the way of your enjoying this hobby. If you want my opinion, I am a satin finish denier. They never existed! Since I collect from circulation, ignorance is bliss. But do not let my (possibly unjustified) opinion discourage you!
