I know the feeling, the one we all get at the end of the month as You reach into the mail box and pull out that discreet brown envelope addressed to YOU! You know what I mean, Visa, Amex, Discover,Mastercard, etc> all the purchases You made through the month + last month's unpaid credit card payment where You only made the minimum payment! Now tell me your honest gut wrenching feeling You have when You tear open that envelope and gaze down at this month's total outstanding balance? You are asking yourself the following questions: >Hope the other half doesn't find out? >How am I going to make this month's minimum payment? >Did I really buy that many coins this month? >Did the credit card company make a mistake? It's time to spill the beans, let me know how You feel when Your holding that brown envelope and Your getting ready to open it! Glenn >

at 24.99% interest what's there to worry about? At least they show you how long it will take to never pay it off at the minimum payment
don't you think it would be better to save actual cash for the coins you want? this is a hobby not a have to.

I have vague recollections of such events. Glad to say that I have not swiped a credit card for over 15 years now. It's cash, debit, or check for me. I take that back, I did use ebay's bill me later option back in December so I could get the $10 cash back and the $10 in ebay bucks. Paid in full one week later.

Used to be that way but I haven't used one in years. Now it's cash or debit card only. That takes a lot of stress out of the equation.

Been there, done that. Now I only use Visa when I have too.One of our favourite restaurants takes only cash OR visa(no debit, etc.)Go figure.NO DEBIT? + on certain other occasions. When the bill comes in I pay it off.(No interest that way.) And I still get the visa credits.

Dunno, never owned plastic money.
I collect Roman coins, I don't know if they had credit cards either, did they?
That forces me to do a weekly budget and pay cash for everything, I pay all bills at the Post Office. Done that most of my life. No money, no funney.

I'm guilty! Interest on my card - 13.49%. My balance is in the hundreds, put still is to much for me. To those who are plastic free. I congratulate and admire you!

The way I see it, if you don't have money in your bank account at the time of your credit card purchase then you shouldn't be purchasing with it. Discipline is the name of the game! The unfortunate thing is most people are not disciplined therefore run into the possible problems that you mentioned Glenzy.

Credit cards were removed from our family when I discovered we were almost $40,000 in debt. New rule is debit card for online and cash for all other. If you don't have it in your account or in your pocket you cannot afford it. I have one credit card for business and it would have to be an emergency to use that. The bad thing is now we have no credit card debt all the card companies are sending us endless junk mail trying to entice us to spend with special low interest rates...They want you to have a huge debt load its how they make their huge profits....

I use plastic for almost everything I can, but I only buy it if the money is in the bank & I ALWAYS pay it off fully each month. My card gives 2% cash back on everything, including paypal ebay purchases. Between it, and my gas credit card that gives 3%, I get about six $100 bonus checks per year, and I never pay a penny of interest. Is it easier to buy something at a store when you just have to pull the plastic instead of hand over green cash? Maybe a little bit honestly, but those are usually the little $25 purchases that are made up for with the cash back anyway. BTW- if I made a big purchase of say $750+ on something that is a personal "toy", I usually go online and immediately send the c.c. company an online bank draft payment right then for that amount.... then you never have to see that that balance is in the thousands at the end of the month!

I have 0 debt when it comes to credit cards. I have been a cash guy now for several years. If I can't pay cash for something, I don't buy it.
