So I happen to love this coin because it was minted at West Point. Do you think this would be a bad coin to invest in? I am not sure. It did have extremely low mintage numbers, but none were really put into circulation so all of the coins that were made are pretty much being collected and kept in great condition. because of the collectors keeping these and them not being circulated, do you think the price will not rise very much at all after a few decades? worthless investment, but cool collectors coin?

Cool collectors coin, indeed! I wouldn't buy it as an investment piece, though.

That one has potential to make a slow but steady climb. One of my very favorite clad coin issues.

I know I just love it. wish I could buy a roll but it's too expensive. I was thinking on just stocking up on ten or so just to set aside.

I found one in circulation the other day.
They are still out there, although probably not MS.

I have a dime collection I'm working and I usually buy unslabbed coins for the Dansco album, but I came across a of 69 that was just too beautiful. I will tell you that its worth the investment for your enjoyment and to have in your collection and in a few decades with inflation gas will be$25 a gallon bread will be $75 a loaf and you won't care what the dime is worth became you will own and know it won't cost you anymore. Lol all kidding aside, I say it worth adding to the collection, if you make a few dollars off it down the road its just that much better. I'm still searching for one in ungraded state for my collection too!

1996 was one of the few mint sets that I bought and actually saw an increase in value...for some reason I bought 4...maybe because it was the last time I bought any..not even sure, but I just noticed those West Point dimes last year.Wonder why they are in a seperate cello ?

Mine has been resting nicely and safely in my Dansco album for some time .......... Not an "investment" for me.....just a "must have" as a collector.

My opinion is that this is the major key date of the clad FDR series and overlooked by most collectors and is therefore highly collectible. Mintage is very low, like 1.5 million and Mercury dimes in the 1 million range are highly collectible even in low grades. The price runs $14-17 range and I think is a good long-term investment, not short-term. It will probably take 10, 15, 20 years for it to double in value. I doubt there will be much spread from AU to MS because it should stay uncirculated.

Paid $14.00 for mine.......... " That" hole is MUCH cheaper to fill in my Rosie Dansco, than the several holes I'll always have in my Lincoln Dansco ! ....... ...(ie. 1909 S VDB, etc.,etc.,) Small price to pay to fill such an important hole IMO......$14.00 ......That much I can AFFORD ! .....

It's funny that this topic came up, but this is perhaps one of my favorite coins, mainly b/c it was minted at west point and is a general issue, circulating type coin, verses say Silver eagles or gold coins. I bought two for $15 each and sent them off to be slabbed and graded. Both came back MS67 and one with a FT, so I kept the FT and gave the other to my gf's dad who had an amazing coin collection, but not one of those. I am thinking about purchasing a few more to hold onto, not out of any investment purposes but just b/c they are one of my favorite coins.

I do not have that hole in my Dansco because it was purchased before 1996.
I have thought about getting one, though, considering how inexpensive they are. However, it would be for myself, not as an investment (since I am a collector, not an investor).

My " Rosie Dansco" is about 1 year old ! ...... And on a side note...... My coin shop guy did not think I had the hole in there for it in my Dansco ! I had to bring in the album to show him that I did !....... That was also the day I bought the coin of course ! ......
