I like the 1996 W Dime but I don't think that it would be a great long term investment. I would say that you are sure to have it raise in value but who knows how much?

Isn't it not a great idea to buy one and send it to get graded? how much does grading cost? I bought mine for $12, and if I send it in and it comes back ms67, doesn't that make me lose money because of the grading cost? I am just thinking of buying like 5 or so just to keep, I love them regardless of whether their prices rises in the future or not. either way, I don't think they will ever drop in price because of the number that were minted. may not be a great investment but at least it is a safe investment?

I sent them in b/c I had several free gradings. At MS67, it's worth about $30, so I would have lost a little money if I had paid b/c of shipping, but the FT designation doubles that, so while it's not the best financial sense to have one slabbed, IMO, it was worth it.

I'd say the 96-W is great for collectors, not so much for investors. I've got one in my Dansco as well, purchased as part of a Mint set in 1996 In nearly 70 years of the Roosevelt dime, the 96-W is about the only exciting thing that's happened in that series.

Great dime. I have one in my proof Dansco. I bought a 96 mint set for the sole purpose of getting that dime. I will continue to snag them whenever I see a good deal on them. they get into change the same way NIFC Kennedy halves do. More times than not a kid getting into dads coin collection. I found several mint and proof sets my useless crack %^&*( sister broke open from my fathers collection. Unfortunately it happens all too often. That is followed by the non coin collector getting a mint set collection from ucle Bob and having NO clue what it is and spending it on their weekly case of PBR and Marlboros. Then followed by the older person whos social security check isn't quite cutting it but they have those coins they have been saving... Things like that.
