Hi all, anyone else get scammed by the RCM on the Subject? I rec'd mine yesterday. $101 CAD when all is said and done! NO DISPLAY case and I found the exact same one I rec'd on ebay for under 30 bucks. Boy oh boy, never expected this to be the coin. Totally misrepresented on their web site. No COA, nothing as stated. I will be sending it back on Monday. What a joke. I hope those that did order it, got what they expected. What surprises me is that they expect me to keep this for $101.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/2010-Proof-Batt...em53e60ae1fb *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

If you check out The Royal Mint website, you'll notice there are two versions of the Battle of Britain. The picture you provided looks like the base proof version which sells for 17.99 in British currency. So if the RCM sent you the cheaper version, I would be ticked. I ordered mine a few weeks ago and it's what I expected with the COA and display case.

Quote:anyone else get scammed by the RCM on the Subject? Scammed seems a bit weak. Defrauded is more accurate. You paid for a sterling silver coin and were given a cupro-nickel coin.

Quote: Defrauded is more accurate. Only if you don't know what fraud is. Intent has to be proven before it's fraud. More likely is some minimum wage or new employee picking the wrong item and sending it by accident. I highly doubt the RCM did this on purpose.

I just got off the phone with Customer Service, it appears that I have an agent that deals with my purchases! He will contact me on Monday. The rep found it very hard to believe what I told him I received, and when I asked if there were any other cases with reference to my scenario, he said no, I was the only one. I got the distinct impression he didn't believe me...or he was in shock.....don't know where that was coming from! Any who....I will reply next week just as a point of interest when I find out what transpired! Wonder if I will get the real deal now that the item is at a Sold Out status?

Perhaps The Royal Mint scammed/defrauded the RCM? Maybe the Federal Government should look into it. But I doubt the RCM would knowingly do something like that.

I'll stick with my fraud and you can have your accident. aarf - good to hear that they are on the case already.

I would send the customer rep at the RCM a picture of what you got so this see the problem right away. Sometimes you have to be prepared to escalate things, if they seem unresponsive. I once ordered a gold coin from the RCM and did not received anything from them a month later. I sent letters and made many calls with no response. It was only when I sent them a registered letter with my intent to take them to small claims court that they promptly sent me the gold coin a week later.

NEVER BUY DIRECTLY FROM THE R.C.M. Wait a few years and buy on the after market from dealers or sellers on e-bay. There are always drastic reductions on this R.C.M. stuff. Best thing about collecting R.C.M. coins is that the longer you wait, the cheaper they get, after market! Glenn....................LOL

Thanks for the posts everyone, nice to see/hear everyone's take on this experience. Quote: I hope you have the original package you received this in and a copy of your order information. Yep, in the picture of my original post is the bubble envelope I rec'd it in. I just turned it over for confidentiality. On the other side is the Bar Coded Preface, inside is the paper work. Quote:Perhaps The Royal Mint scammed/defrauded the RCM? Maybe the Federal Government should look into it. But I doubt the RCM would knowingly do something like that. How this mistake can happen when the RCM doesn't even offer this version is a mystery, possibly as mentioned a Royal Mint to RCM fiasco! Generally, I have little problems and excellent service from the RCM. When I talk to my agent on Monday, I will definitively send him the picture. As they say a picture is worth a 1000 words! Last time I had an experience similar to this but from another vendor, they were so disgusted with themselves that they told me to keep the shipment made in error as an apology and they sent the correct coin right away. I doubt that will happen here!

Some issues will sell out quickly enough (such as this coin here) and will be significantly harder to find. Buying directly from the mint offers some advantages - when you receive the correct coin of course. One the secondary market you may get problem coins - as we've seen collectors reported on this forum. I see that you still don't understand what motivates people to collect. Back to the current topic, the coin should definitely come in a presentation case, but there isn't any serialized COA. What is hard to believe is that you received something that the Mint does not carry (yet).

Wow talk about jumping to conclusions and using load words. Why not FIRST phone the mint and figure out some details. When something goes wrong in life my first thought isn't - lets jump on the internet and assume a bunch of things and make stuff up so it sounds worse than it is.
Did they really say "they expect me to keep this for $101.00"? Or did you just make that up?
lol... take a pill and learn to deal with your problems in a constructive way.
