Here is an interesting find!
Is a good topic discussion for this mishap.
Is it Mishap #1 or #2
#1. Coin Ding leaving an indent ?
or
#2. Die Collar broke off damaging the die leaving a raised area?

I can't figure this one out, but I'm sure someone will along shortly and give you some insight.

Could you possibly include a pic of the entire coin, obverse and reverse? This is very interesting.

Hello & Top of the day to you! At the present time while I am still buying and searching through more rolls for more like this one I'm sorry to say I will have to refrain from using the total picture of the denomination etc at the present time. I will reveal it once I send it of and have it returned probably at the same time I plan to submit the dropped letter. Hope you can understand and appreciate my discretion. Thank You for your input. Though it would be nice if one replies that they vote either for number 1 or for number 2.

Hi Mishap It looks like a piece of the collar has been clashed between the dies,, and the damage transfered to the following coins. Very interesting,, and just for fun,, I have made a private guess as to which coin series the pic is of !! Rick

I made a guess as well, but will just wait until he finally says what it is, also I beleive it was come sort of clash as well, the only problem is it looks like a denticle clash and the coin I thought it was doesn't have denticles around the rim so not 100% sure my coin is the correct one

my vote is #1 = DING though I sure would not be disappointed, if I were wrong on this one . it would be much more interesting if it were indeed raised from some damaged die.keep us up too date...

The coin in question does have reeding on the edge so you must know it does comes from a dime, quarter, silver dollar or half dollar.
The error is a 2001 coin if this helps any. I am sure everyone is narrowing it down.
To be honest it is realy irrelevant if one knows the denomination & mint mark , though it is has been good for a forum question. I may resolve the question of the mint and denomination before I have it slabed. Keep thinking

Indent into the die made by a breakaway piece of the collar in the coin press? A 2001 P Kennedy perhaps?

Looks like a buffalo silver dollar or a ASE to me but as I said I am not 100% sure which or if it is either. It looks more like a Buffalo than a ASE from what I can tell from the picture, but I have been wrong before and will probably be wrong again, heck it wouldn't be the first time today I have been wrong
