I have gone from searching whatever rolls of halfs each bank has on hand to 2, and soon 4 boxes per week. I am not finding that much, but manage the occasional 40%'er.

I was wondering the pros and cons of getting 4 boxes or 2 bags. I can see how the boxes have more eyes looking at them. The bags could be somebodys dumps. I am sure there are other factors I am not aware of.

How do you return a bag? Would they credit your account on the spot, or wait until it has been sent back and counted? I depend on being credited the same day, as I use the some $1k twice a week.

Does anyone have any wild stories about searching bags? I am just thinking out loud, and am interested in other peoples experiences. The stories are more fun than finding keepers. (Well, almost, anyway!)

Thanks for your consideration!

Bags are almost always more productive... but what is in bags usually ends up boxed, so...

I bet a bag of halves really ruins a tellers day... But the look on their face would be priceless

I've had much more luck w/ bags too. As long as you take them to a different bank for dumping than the the bank you got them from you should be in good shape.

I guess I am somewhat of a novelty to the tellers where I am at. There is only one bank that has copped an attitude about my asking for rolls. I am seriously thinking on making them my #1 dump. They have a self serve counter in the lobby, but I am sure they would make me wait forever to change the bag I would be sure to fill each visit.

I am curious about the details of returning a bag. Would the designated dump bank take it at face value and credit my account on the spot? Maybe they would run it through their coin counter? Even worse, would they ship it off to Brinks or whoever to be counted and credited to my account the following week?

Right now boxes are OK. I was just wondering if bags would offer up a better chance at some silver. If the price of silver keeps ratcheting up, I wonder if there will even be a War Nickel left in circulation.

I had the same problem with my bank when getting rolls. They kept going to the commercial window of the rolls. So I just started going to that window and talked to the teller. I told her that is was looking for a certain coin. I was looking for a 1970 Kennedy half. She even started looking for odd coins for me after awhile. The nice thing is it usually the same person who works that window.
