Recently picked this guy up in my shop and started pondering his grade. The scans I have are okay but they definately don't show the mint luster this guy has.

So anyhow what do you guys think?

Full headband/hairline delineation. Pearls fully formed. Maybe a bit of wear on the feather tips. I'd say AU 53, depending on luster higher?

I think it could be an AU55 with some possible strike weakness. Very nice coin!

AU-55 was my first thought. Cleaned or just bad lighting?

That's the worst part of a scanner, it doesn't show the luster on the coin.

I don't like grading with scanner pics, but I'll say MS-60 nice Indian.

I would say AU-55. Nice overall, looks to be some wear on both ribbons and some scattered marks and discoloration on back.

The image makes me guess lower than it might be.

Why does the obverse appear doubled?

biggfredd,

The doubling is one of the undesirable characteristics that my scanner also produces but mostly when scanning silver coins only. I am unsure about the best method for eliminating this doubling effect on copper coins for other non-Epson scanners.

I have, however, been reasonably successful 75% of the time eliminating the doubling when scanning silver coins on my own Epson product. Since the upper interior lid of my scanner lid/cover is pure white I have simply placed a dark grey vinyl substrate on top of my coin before closing the scanner's lid on top of it.

This procedure may also possibly work for other non-silver coins on other printer brands but my Epson WorkForce 610 printer/scanner will usually scan copper coins without having to deploy this method.

Great looking coin, the lowest curl seems to have a trace of wear, or it could be a reflection from your scanner. The strike is also incomplete, but these copper-nickel cents were difficult to strike up fully, which is why they lasted 7 years only. Conservatively, AU-58 could be MS61/62 on a good day!

To much wear OBVERSE: feather tips, hair above ear, hair behind ear, and on the band with diamonds (the area over the hair). REVERSE: Is that a fingerprint on the shield?
tops of leaves in wreath, ribbon over arrows.
My guess and thats what it is a guess Au-53 55
