Hello all. To make it easier to know what to get, I'm trying to put together an Australian coin checklist for decimal coins. I've attached the two pages and am wondering how accurate this is.This is for mainly circulated coinage and I haven't included the coins available in mint and proof sets only. I don't know if the different mints use a mintmark (Perth, Sydney, Canberra, etc), but if they do those aren't included either. Do the 20 cent and 50 cent coins have standard issues along with the commemoratives as I have listed? How Close AM I to completion? Thanks for your comments. Ken

20c - Delete 1986, 1992, 2003, 2007 Lifesaver
20c - Add 1988, 2001 Bradman
50c - Delete 1988, 2002, 2003

$1 Add- 1988 Bi-Centennial (Has Aboriginal Kangaroo on Rev), 2001 Cent of Fed (stylized Map of Australia on Rev), 2005 Anniv WWII (Dancing Man on Rev)
$2 - 2010 coins not in circulation yet, don't know if any have been minted
As far as I am aware at present, no 2011 circulation coins have been released yet.
There are no real Mint Marks as such for our circulation coins, however there are some distinguishing features on a handful that you may or may not wish to pursue. Let me know if you want this info, and I'll try to direct you to some sites that hopefully will have all the necessary info you might need.

Nancy, thank you very much! You're the best! I've edited the checklist and here's the final edition. This will make it a lot easier for me to know what's out there and what to get. I really appreciate it. Ken

Hi, 50c are my thing... Here we go
1970 50c has "Captain Cook" normal and tilted date 1980 50c has "Coat Of Arms" normal and double bar 1994 50c has "Year of Family" wide date and narrow date 2000 50c has "Millennium" normal and incused flag 2010 50c has "Australia day"
All the others Nancy has covered for you
I have all the coins you are missing except "Millennium" incused flag; if you need anything just ask.

What a wonderful list! This will be far nicer to tuck into my coining satchel than having to dig through a whole book. Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks for your comments. I make lists all the time as I collect a few other things, and it's nice to know what there is to get. I've updated this checklist again and thought I would post it for anyone who is interested. As ElleKitty mentioned, it's easier to have a short list like this than to go through a book if you stop at a coin shop and just want to remember what you have and are looking for. I've made these lists for American and Canadian coins too. They're a few pages larger and more comprehensive than the Australian listing. I can post those also if anyone is interested. You can just print it out and check off what you have. For those that prefer a vertical format: Ken

Ozzie, no. This is a simple checklist that doesn't include those. This is just for collectors to remember what they have when they see a pile of Australian coins at a shop or flea market, etc. I like to keep one of these lists in the car when I'm on a road trip and see a coin shop, hobby shop, private sale in a different town. It's must easier (and cheaper) than toting a book.
zipper, Greg MacDonald's book may be well worth the money, but at $35 + $20 to ship it to the USA makes it very pricey. A two page checklist is the way to go for me. I'm not big on varieties or errors, just one coin each per date is good enough for me.
I could easily add the special collector's commemoratives and varieties and even mintage numbers to my list but I like it simple, but I'm thinking of making a pre-decimal list too.
Thanks for all your comments!
