I collect foreign coins, and I'm having a lot of trouble identifying this one.
It's a silver large coin about the size of an old large us silver dollar.
Thanks for the help.

I had to copy the image location to get the photos to show up, but I did get there.

Let me preface this by stating I am not an expert by any means on Oriental coins, but this coin seems to be one of the many fakes coming out of China these days. It is modeled from one of the dollars from the Republic of China, general issue.

What makes me suspicious of this coin is the cartoony appearance of the portrait on the Obverse. The reverse seems rather well done, but if you look at the denticles- the little spikes extending from the edge of the coin design toward the center; they look a little blobby.

The coin, if it were real, seems to be a rather rare issue. That makes me suspicious of the authenticity as well.

I'm sure someone else will be along to comment on this coin too!

I hope it isn't, and if it is I got ripped off possibly on another coin...

Can any one verify if this one is real too?
It's the same size and bought from the same store.

Kris, your photos are not showing up.

Ellekitty, unfortunately both of your "coins" are not coins.

Yes, gxseries- the photos in my post are the coins Kris posted in his first post, but they weren't showing up for me, either.

Both coins seem to be copies of rare Chinese coins. I am pretty sure neither are genuine.

KrisKross try testing the "1903 Tael" (it looks to be a copy of a Dollar) with a magnet, if it's magnetic then it's a 100% fake.

Neither of Kris' coins are genuine Chinese coins. Only a few provinces issued tael coinage; the Empire considered issuing Empire-wide coinage with a design something like this but they never proceeded. I don't think any of the genuine pattern taels ever actually made it to China.

If you want further proof, pop them out of their 2x2s and weigh them. The "dollar" should weigh about 27 grams; the "tael" should be much heavier, at 37 grams. Typical imitation/fantasy copies like this rarely weigh much over 20 grams.
