I'm considering buying another Jefferson set, 38-64 complete, so I can give one to each of my kids when they get as bit older. All the coins are avg circulated.

Any ideas on what I should be paying for it? $40-50, perhaps?

I think that is a fair price considering the War Nickels alone individually would cost you probably half that and you need to take into account the 50D and 39S. Doing the same things with my nickel and Lincoln Cent sets for my sons.

They seem to go from $35-$50 on ebay depending on condition. Most average circulated are going closer to the $35.

I think you meant 39-D not 39-S. 39-D is the 2nd major key after the 50-D. 39-S circulated only runs about $1 and is a semi-key.

I just tried to sell a set locally that lacked the 5 keys/semi-keys (38 D&S, 39D&S, 50-D) and wanted $25 for it and the bidding only got to $20- which was silver melt for the silver nickels alone (all were present).

If you roll search why not have them do it with you? It's a fairly easy set to complete in circulated condition. You would be able to spend more time with them completing it and I'm sure they would have much more of an appreciation knowing it's something they completed with you rather then something that was just given to them.

Wonder what a Dansco '38 to present with Proofs would go for ? ....
Average upper-grade (AU-50 or better) quality on the early ones... (which is what I'm trying to do with my Dansco)
And upper-grade quality with the Silver War Nickels too....which I currently don't have.
I have close to 200 Silver War Nickels....but NONE of them are in the quality range that I want in my Dansco.

Just curious what a full complete set like this would go for.....

eaglefoot - I did a BU/proof set of Jefferson nickels last year.
I am pretty sure I got up into the $400 range.

I do think going with AU/BU set that price will come down a lot.
Some of the better dates I paid (from memory/ballpark)
All BU's
39 D - $70
42 D - $40
50 D - $10
Full War Nickel set - $80

By going AU on these coins, you could put a nice set together
closer to the $200 range. IMO

And that is about right. Except for a few things. One would be the price of an Album, any brand. Most start at about $30 and up. I've seen completed Unc sets at coin shows from 38 to present including all proofs in and Whitman Album for the $450 range not long ago.
Unfortunately just not a really high loved set or the prices would be much higher.
