I liked this Walker at one time and it was part of my core collection. It had some marks on the obverse and every time I picked it up my eyes went there.

I think this is a very appealing coin- the scratches are very light and the toning that is occurring on it is helping to mask the scratches. This is a series I'm not real great at grading, but it looks at least EF- lots of details on the eagles feathers, lots of detail on the left hand obverse (which is a usual area of wear), lots of skirt lines, also an area that wears easily. Could even be AU and has some apparent luster but I will defer to some experts on this series. I really like this coin, very nice!

Hello Dewayne, Looks MS to me. The flat area along the center of Liberty's left leg is I think typical strike weakness, not wear. Head detail is strong and I can see a left thumb which is an indicator of an above-average strike. Other than the obverse hairlines I don't see any disturbance in the fields that would indicate circulation wear. Color looks very original and appealing.
The hairlines and two small digs on the eagle's left wing would impact the grade but I still think this qualifies as MS-63. I have to wonder what beauty replaced this coin in your core collection!

Beautiful head and the eagle is very sharp, MS for sure probable down to 62 because of the scratches. If you saw the G4 sitting in my 1916 spot you would realize how lucky you are!

the reverse certainly looks MS to me-on the obverse, it's not as easy to tell from the pics-is that wear on the olive branch, and the left leg? my range would be au-53-Ms 63, depending on those two factors.

AU-55. Super amazing coin, very very nice. Too bad about the scratches on the obverse though.

Amazing coin. Yes, it might be dark, but that actually helps the super eye appeal. Contrast to the human eye is the best.
The high contrast makes the finely struck details stand out just that much more. If we were looking at a MS65/6/7/8 like coin, the contrast would be lower, so the details would not jump off the monitor as much as these do.

Thanks for all the comments.. I think someone tried to clean some dirt away from the dress with a needle or something metal. The images don't show it that great. It still graded at PCGS. If I had sent it in to grade, It would have been a genuine grade for sure. This image shows a little more.

wow thats great that PCGS graded it at a 63. I have a very dark 1916 I bought off ebay that was in my opinion MS but the seller shipped it to me in tissue paper and now the high points of the bust and the eagle breast have a lighter tone to it. It has equal detail to yours.

Don't get me wrong it's a nice original Walker but the scratches are just not for me. I would take a problem free XF-45 over this 63 any day of the week. I guess I'm getting picky in my old age.
