Die Chip Question

Would both of these pictures be considered examples of a die chip? The reason I ask is because they are so different. The first on appears to have design elements, perhaps part of a column. The second one is just a blob and it appears as though the zinc is exposed

The first one is a really nice die chip.

The second one looks like it took a hit.

Can someone explain why the first Die Chip so nice? Or maybe send a link that explains them to me?

They are both die chips. I'm not sure what people are seeing that make it so much "nicer" than the other...they are basically the same thing.

The lines on the chip on the first coin are probably breakage stages, meaning they are the edges of smaller individual breaks that eventuated in what you see on this coin. Just like Cuds, die chips break away in stages, sometimes leaving their rough edges visible in the newly broken areas.

Both of these are a little uncommon because of their size, but you'd still have a hard time finding a true error collector who would be interested in them at a collectible value - they are just too common for a decent premium.
