I see what you're seeing, but you've already answered your own question. What appears as doubling is heat damage. I'm not aware of any '34D quarter variety with doubling that dramatic. Heat does strange things to metal. Furthermore, as a badly damaged coin, it would be impossible to confirm this example as anything other than the quarter it is. But heck- it's a silver quarter! Your question was not at all unreasonable, I hope I was able to give you some answers.

Heat cannot double die, heat caused discoloration...the back side looks fine. I know it's a DDO I'm just trying to find someone who has seen a DDO 1934 D.

Lol, I sell Doubled Dies and RPMs for a living, it's what pays my mortgage. When you get this rare doubled die classified, let me know what die # it is. That's very exciting! Please follow up, I'd love to hear what an expert tells you....

Check the weight on this piece because I'm with Coop, it looks like a cast fake.

Exactly what I thought...It's a fake.
BTW, I don't think heat could cause this, but soft dies could.
Besides all else, a doubled die THAT major would probably have been discovered well before now. If this were real, and if it were BU, it would be a full-arms-length visible doubled die. It would overshadow the 1955 cent doubled die. Tht right there is enough to warrant speculation, but when the coin looks cast and doesn't even appear to be genuine 90% silver, it brings speculation to near-certainty...fake.
Like Conder101 said - weight it. If the weight is off, you certainly have a fake.

It would probably be a bit more helpful to post full size pics of both sides instead or partial closeups of only one side. With that said, There is very little chance this is a major undiscovered DDO.

I've seen silver go through a fire, and it doesn't look like that. Pewter and white metal, yes, but not silver. I'm with the fake crowd.

I'm not stuck on the fire theory, just assumed due to the fact that the OP said it came out of a burnt down house.
My only stance is that THIS IS NOT A DOUBLED DIE!!
Could be a lot of things, but I know what it's NOT.
