I'm taking it to an ANACS grader tomorrow to get a verbal opinion (hopefully) so I'll post his results tomorrow.

Concur it is somewhere in the AU range. Not much detail on the Eagle's neck but that could just be strike.

I would say low mint state. Not a fan of this series, but I don't see any wear. The pics aren't exactly clear.

Yes due to poor lighting I had to actually use the camera's flash. So in order to stay away from the glare I had to shoot on an angle.

I would go down to AU55 because of the significant hit from the rim of anther coin in the field and that scratch over the neck. It may have AU58 wear but that's gotta be a factor.

The more and more research that I've done on gold in the last few days leads me to think that this coin is AU55 and I think wheezy hits it best. My reasons are the big ding behind her head in the field, the scratch across her face and also the small ding in the actual rim at 6 o'clock on the reverse.
I will say that I think it has MS details, but the wear and over all fields of the coin have me putting it at AU55. This one by the way, is from my collection :). My fathers is in a tad bit better shape. I'll post that one tomorrow.

Yeah AU-55 is probably right too many marks for a 58

I would have said 53 details, lightly cleaned/scratched. Just not enough luster for me to go higher, but it sounds like I'm a bit hard on half eagles lately.

I'm more in Johnny's camp. The luster is much brighter in the protected areas around the obverse stars and reverse legend. It has been dulled in the fields from circulation wear. I think wear is also in play with the weak detail in Liberty's hair and the star radials. Strike could account for some but not all of that weakness. Add in the contact marks and I'm seeing no better than AU-50 as a market grade.
This would be a perfect coin to put in a half eagle bullion roll!

AU53 I think the coin is original. The OP's reverse picture is just blurry at the top. I don't see any strike weakness.
