I was looking through some Lincolns that I purchased a while back and came across this 2000 S cent. If it hadn't been paying attention, I might have missed this. As it is, I'm not sure how this happened or even what it is.

There appears to be an indentation (in the shape of a 'C' or semi-circle) right above the 1st 0 in the date. Any ideas about what this may be? Perhaps a piece of metal that ended up on the die and was punched into the coin?

That's what looks like happened. Some debris on either the die
or planchet.

Maybe technically classified as an error, but realistically it's too small to bring in any premium value.

Probably a very mall piece of wire? Or something small.

Yeah, this one is just an 'interesting keeper' for me. I'll put it in a binder sleeve to keep company with the clipped planchet, off-center, and other miscellaneous error cents in my collection. It'll definitely get a good home. I've just never seen anything like that on a proof coin before...

Thanks to everyone for the info!

Some of the bigger struck through stuff, especially on proof coins, can bring some good cash in. Thing is, it has to be blatantly visible to the naked eye to generate much interest.
