Hey, All: I just received my 1st order from APMEX and I am ecstatic about it. I ordered a roll of 20 ASEs from APMEX on 3/31, they shipped on 4/8, and I received them today on 4/11 via USPS. I could not believe the box that they shipped this in. It is darn-near bullet proof! Once I managed to get it open, I found a US Mint tube inside with the ASEs all neatly stacked inside. I cannot believe how beautiful these coins are. They are simply magnificent! As some say, "a thing of beauty is a joy forever" and these certainly qualify as things of beauty. I know that I am buying them as silver bullion but they go WAY beyond that in appearance. I am so glad that I got these and that I dealt with APMEX. Their service is 1st rate and they stay in contact with the customer via email during the entire process. Here is a pic of the newest addition to my silver hoard: Yes, the other 15 coins really are in the mint tube but they don't show in this pic due to being washed out by the camera flash.

Thanks, guys. I am REALLY enjoying this purchase. It all worked out really well. Because I am into this for the long haul, I won't be upset if the silver price declines. All that means is I can buy more!

Yeah I bought 5 straight from a tube today at the coin shop. They are very beautiful and sound beautiful. Something about this being "real money" always goes through my head when looking at them.
Now be sure to wear gloves when handling! Don't want to get those fingerprints on them!
Enjoy!

OP-
Consider putting together a date set in proof. Cost you a couple bucks more per coin, and will hold value better if silver drops.

Haven't seen any platinum or palladium coins but I am sure that the same thought would occur to me. All of these just seem so bright, beautiful, and solid... not thin and crinkly or soft and fuzzy from over-use. Quote: Now be sure to wear gloves when handling! Yeah, I did take them out to look at them and to get that pic. I carefully poured them out onto a towel and then handled them by the edges. I agree that a pair of thin cotton gloves would be good to use when handling them. I'll have to get a pair ASAP.

Thanks again to all who replied and sent congrats on my ASE buy. I'm still floating on air over them. I am sure that will wear off in a few days but for right now, it is sweet! APMEX is indeed a great company. I really appreciate people and businesses that do what they say they will do. When I was a kid, I saw very early in life that when two men come together, look each other in the eye, strike a bargain, and shake hands on it that it is much better than ANY paper contract known to Man. This ASE buy was such a meeting... a test, as it were. APMEX has passed that test with flying colors and I will be buying more from them over time. I won't leave my local coin shop out either, as the dealer there seems to be a real good guy too. It's nice to have some options in all this.

For the time being, though, I just want to collect some ounces of silver and gold. These are my "financial insurance" against those O-S! situations that we all know are out there, lurking in the dark... waiting for the unwary and unprepared. The proof sets sure are things of beauty, though, and would make a superb addition to anyone's collection.

ASEs are one of my favorites by far. I still wish they would introduce a new series for bullion, like what Canada is doing with the wildlife series, or Australia having the Kooks, Roos, and Koalas. In addition to the ASEs of course.

That's the beauty of it, tho. You don't have to buy proof sets. The ASE proofs are sold singly, and they are literally only a couple dollars more than the bullion versions. If you like the uncs, the proof cameos will knock your socks off.

I am failing to understand the difference between the two you speak of Fredd, is a proof coin uncirculated dead mint, or what makes a proof ASE better for the lack of a better word, and what were they intended for? Like a template perhaps for others, this is where I need a stronger understanding of how coins are made and minted perhaps, stupid question I am sure to most, but I will never figure it out if I don't ask? Keep in mind, most all I have purchased thus far has been bullion medals of silver or gold coins or bars, commemorative coins if you will, and that is totally different from a circulated coin correct? Obviously a coin must fall under the title of being a particular country's currency I would think and have been in circulation or attended for circulation, in order to be considered a true "coin" correct, best way I can word it in simple terms? Now then, I know I have some actual silver or gold coins, like the Liberia coins, or the Lunar coins, or a silver Panda, but I more confused about what makes a proof coin.... I would like to eventually get into the older, rare, once circulated coins, most of you collect I would think, but I have just not had the time or money to crack that egg yet, and don't know what is a good start, short of say I have thought about the Kennedy and Franklin half dollars for the obvious rare dates and 90% silver....
