Just curious; all you folks that get the rolls and boxes - what do you do with the remaining coins after you've extracted your finds? Do you re-roll them, and take them back to the same bank? Do you just keep and spend them? The latter would seem expensive, or time-consuming, if you're getting boxes, or lots of rolls...

I get about 1k worth of coins a week. I search them one roll at a time and put a coin in to replace the ones I take out
I take the rolls I have searched in the box to another bank and deposit them back into my account so I can search again the next week

My bank asked that I not re-roll them. Because they have to run them through the coin counter machine and would have to unwrap them anyway.
People can stick metal washers or metal slugs or whatever in rolls to "fool" the bank, if they just accepted rolls without looking. It happens a lot.
Even the wrong denominations get in there all the time too.

So, between my three branches.....I just take in large containers or ziplocks full of "dump coins".....they run them through and give me my cash for them.
Works very well for me.

One piece of advice I'd throw your way..... be careful not to "burden" your bank. (which has to pay for your loose coins to be picked up by an amored truck, or they pay bank employees to count and/or re-roll your loose coins)
With "dump coins".....spread it around as best you can to other branches of your bank. Or open up another account somewhere else and use it as a dump bank.
Most places will let you open an account for $100.00 bucks or so.

I have two banks that I get boxes from. One I have an account, the other doesn't care, or they think I have an account. I try to alternate between banks. I'll swap out boxes with one bank one or two times, and then do the same at the the other bank next time. I re-roll as I search IE., 1 out, 1 in and re-roll. Don't have to count them then. I'll also mark the rolls some way so I know if I've searched them before or not. If I have, I'll ask for a different box.

I re-wrap them and exchange them for new rolls every friday, but I only do 6-10 rolls right now. I'd love to do a box of nickels one of these days though.

Great advice, I really appreciate all the responses! I now have a good idea what to do, and what NOT (thanks eaglefoot) to do!

and, if you go through a lot of coins, find a bank that has been especially rude to you to be your dump bank. First security was rude and now they have to pay for it b/c I got an account there to dump the $100+ in pennies that I go through about every week and a half.

My current bank (Credit Union) does have a coin machine, but I think it costs 7%, with the money going to charity. I think free might be hard to find.

I buy my coins from a bank that I like and dump the leftovers in a coin counter at a bank I don't care for. Works quite well.

I have 4 banks locally that I get coins from on a rotating basis so I'm not hitting the same ones all the time and bothering them. They are all very pleasant to me when I come in to buy them. Then for dumping, there are 2 different branches of another bank where I return them, but that is the bank where I have my paychecks direct deposited so I've been a customer for many years and they don't mind. Oh, and it helps that at Christmas time I take all of them loaves of homemade pumpkin bread - the dump branches get extra loaves!
