Is that what the coin actually looks like, as if Liberty is wearing a mask? Or just shading in the photo?

Could be wear? A mix of that and lighting? Either way, looking good Dave. White balance looks fairly good. If you can set up or angle another light to get rid of the shadows that would be good too! What settings did you settle on for your camera?

It looks like you are getting some reflection off of something red and it is showing up next to the stars - upper right

if that's supposed to be a Capped Bust half dollar, certain differences in the design have me questioning if its authentic

Can you elaborate? Looks like a rather nice O-101 to me.

Nice shot, busthalf. Far better to have the help sitting next to you than on your computer screen.

I can't really find a great picture of a 1818 online, and can't be sure without seeing ones side-by-side.
- the bottom right star is usually lower compared to the hair
- the top left star is usually a little higher
- the pointed folds at back of neck: the lower point should be shorter

these may all be variances in the dies, so don't take my opinion as gospel

This may or may not hep Fuzzy317

O-101
Obverse die 1. Reverse die A.

Obverse: Date 11mm. 181 wider than last 18. First 8 is larger than secnd 8. Serifs and crossbar from 7 easily shows above top of 8 and there is a trace of the stand in the lower loop. Center dot located on neck

Reverse: Center dot between crossbars 4 and 5. T-I are in line on the right side,

Let me know if it does.

I am not good with varieties, so I withdraw my questioning it being authentic
