So I was playing the "keep putting a nickel inside a vending machine hoping that it will give back older nickels" and this time, it paid off. However, this machine for some reason was one of the few that spits out two nickels for each dime I put it. When I put a dime in and it gave me two nickels, one was a 1963 and the other was a 1943P. It's my first P War Nickel too. That gives me 4 War Nickels (with the other 3 given to me as a gift).

Just a random vending machine. I'm not sure why some of them spit out change in two nickels for each dime.

Yes, I recently started looking through some rolled nickels and have found quite a few War Nickels, buffalo as well as many prior 1960. I was getting some rolled nickels just to keep due to the intrinsic metal value and was going to check hand rolled for accuracy and the 3rd coin was silver! Made me continue and have found quite a few more in both machine and hand rolled from the bank. Keep looking. Nickels are really the only coin not really searched out for one reason or another (dimes/quarters/halves for silver, pennies for copper as well as wheat)

They are still in the "wild". I recently switched from roll searching pennies to nickels. I just finished my 6th box last night. In the first four boxes I searched I found 1 War Nickel in each with a fair amount of pre-1960. That's what I'm collecting. In the 5th box, I found 2 Buffalos, one with and one without a date, and over a roll of pre-1960s. So I went right back to the same bank, which is the one I belong to, and asked for and got the box that was sitting next to it. In the 6th box I found at most a half roll of pre-1960s and that's it. So the War Nickels AND Buffalos are still there. You just have to look.
