In keeping with my desire to own silver and to buy in small amounts over time, I am not paying a lot of attention to the price right now. I mean, it took a market closure on Friday to stop silver prices from rising in the US. That seems to be about the only thing stopping it. Anyway, I ordered a roll of BU Kennedy halves and a roll of BU Roosevelt dimes from APMEX this morning. They charge a little more for these than for the more beat up versions but since I get a lot of pleasure from looking at really nice coins, I thought that the extra premium was worth it. Don't know if I will recover that extra cost someday or not but in the mean time, I WILL get a lot of enjoyment out of just looking at them. That has to be worth something, right?  |

I agree. Most of my rolls are BU, proof, or AU at least. I have some VG and VF rolls too but cull out all the coins below VG or with problems and sell them. I've got a bunch of rolls of BU and proof Franklins and they are beautiful to look at.  |

When the forum moves to the new auction system, I think BH1964 should put some of those BU rolls up with a BIN at melt. That way I can make sure the BIN button works. Just call me a beta tester!

Yes nice addition, those Franklin and Kennedy halves are something I need to look into as well, and APMEX sent me an email saying they are offering free ship for another week, so, did they extend that offer to you as well, the free shipping? If so that should compensate for the nicer coins, and I would have did the same, as I like the nicer stuff, and it should bring a better price one day than the beat up stuff.... You say Roosevelt dimes eh. Everyone seems to like those and the Mercury dimes as well. Curious which Roosevelt and time period, Franklin the 2nd one correct, not the rough rider Teddy? And also what is the common time period for the Mercury design, based on the God of war correct? Edited by Silverhawk74

Would also like some Walking Liberty halves, if I can find some in really nice condition. BU is probably unrealistic, given their age and all but if found I am sure that the price would be pretty stiff. I also do not have any silver quarters yet. I should get some of them but the design isn't all that great, IMHO. Of course, the design of the Roosevelt dime isn't that great either but I needed something of that value for my collection. |

Sorry, don't have one of those and have no plans to get one. My 5 year old Samsung cell phone is working just fine. That would be FDR, not Teddy... whom I would MUCH prefer! Can't quite remember the specifics from my mythology class back in high school but it seems to me that Mercury was called "the bringer of light" or some such. Ares was the god of war, as far as I remember. Mercury was a messenger of some kind, hence the wings on his helmet and ankles to speed him on his duties. It's been a while. |

Mercury was the messenger of the gods, but the "Mercury" dime really depicts Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap.

You are right on that Ed, I am usually pretty good with history, but I get figures confused often in Greek mythology....
On a side note to that, I have a couple neat silver rounds with the Greek mythology on the back, and one has a cool Voodoo scene on the front, masks an such, and the other has like a winged Goddess or something along those lines on the front side....
I would post pictures, but I am a ways from figuring out how to downsize pictures yet to post, any quick fix suggestions? I am about to leave to go visit my grandfather in hospital and then off to family's for Easter, so happy Easter all, and I will get back on the picture issue start of next week....

And yes Ed, on further inspection, I saw that offer is for the smart phones....
I don't have Internet on my phone either, as I don't feel I require it so badly that I must surf an check emails every second of the day. My girlfriend has one, and when she allows me access (for limited time of course, as the battery power is rationed, lol), I find myself attempting to figure out how to surf with fingers, up size pages, and downsize them, WITHOUT accidentally hitting a wrong button taking you to an unwanted page, it is a real pain let me tell you. In time, you figure it out like anything, but not for those with bad eye sight or large fingers, lol....

You'll get that money back if you want it. Silver is nowhere near a bubble, but eventually it will be. I'm thinking around $200/oz. Keep them right before it bursts.

Very few people ever recognize a bubble while it is inflating. They almost always see it as a great investment that is doing really well! It is only AFTER the big POP! that people step back, look at the situation, and say, "Hey, that was a bubble!". Maybe that is the surest measure of a bubble... the speed at which the price falls after it tops out? Physical silver holdings are very susceptible to a price collapse because it often cannot be sold quickly enough to recover the bulk of its investment. Silver ETFs, on the other hand, do not have this problem. They can be sold almost instantly as prices start to collapse. Not saying that either of these is a perfect investment. Both have their uses but in terms of getting out when prices fall, an ETF is much superior to selling physical silver. If you want to actually HOLD silver, then the metal in coins, rounds, and bars is a great way to do that. |

That is a good price on an Engelhard sealed bar right now. APMEX is sold out and generic 10ozers are bringing $525. |
