Here is a pic I threw together to compare a 1926 Near 6, Far 6, and a counterfeit Far 6 variety. Note the positioning on the numbers in the counterfeit, and even their very appearance, bears no resemblance to an authentic piece.

OK, I did what the tutorial said. The picture is at: http://www.imagebam.com/image/d4c599129411130I followed these steps: 1. Place the url of the external image url in the post editing box. 2. Highlight the URL with your cursor and click on the Insert Image Icon icon above the post box. This will surround the URL with . tags. Your image should now appear in your post when you submit it. put it into the box where you enter text to post. I highlighted it. I clicked the little box that puts the IMG tags around the image URL And the picture still does not appear. So what's up?

Any idea as to the source of the counterfeits in question? Are they wholly forged, or are they more common date George V nickels with the dates altered? Thanks for any info on this.

Quote: Any idea as to the source of the counterfeits in question? I don't know who made them, but they didn't do a very good job, a collector of Canadian nickels shouldn't be fooled by them, the six isn't even close to be looking real.

Yes - the source of these is a private Chinese company. It is not illegal to make copies of coins over there. Thankfully ebay has curtailed allowing the selling of these copies. All of them listed on ebay were marked as replicas, but I had read on other websites where there were people fearing some copies were being imported without the proper marking. I wish I remember where it was, one website even had pictures of the factory and its storefront in China. Since I have a lot of time on my hands I have spent awhile browsing & studying available online info. I figure if I get educated on the current fakes, I decrease the chance I will be fooled into buying one.

Thought I would refresh this thread with the pic inside the thread rather than needing to go to a link:

wht proof do you have that it is a fake and NOT just a different die, or perhaps another 6-variety? I have two entirely different coins of a Canadian province and none is a fake. they both look the same but are different.

the fake was manufactured by Big Tree Coin in China. CCN ran images of all his fakes with markers. There are numerous sites with all images by both this manufacturer as well as H.K. Replica coins also from China. coingirl, I know it to be a known counterfeit. People continue to purchase these from them. They will continue to manufacture them. Maybe Canadian Coin News should run the articles again of the 188 different Chinese fakes. (yes I asked the 2 main manufacturers if they are making any different ones.....they said no)

Sorry I did not see your question sooner conigirl. Nickelsguy is correct. And I know this is a fake b/c I personally bought this from Big Tree Coin before they got kicked off of ebay. They had it listed as a replica coin. It cost me a whole 1.50 including shipping!
