http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...c&FORUM_ID=3I'm still months away from having the money to buy a No Motto Seated dollar, but I'm starting my research now. My gut tells me to stay away from something like the one above. I can't really explain why either, other than being conservative. Would you give this one a thumbs up or not? Any guesses on where it closes? Thanks.

Your link seems to be just a reply box; was it supposed to be an ebay auction?

Nice details but, IMO, cleaned & polished (dramatically).
It's not worth the price, again, IMO.

Agree - lots of problems with that one. The Seated dollars are tough and expensive unfortunately. You've got to watch closely for counterfeits as well.

It's not worth the price, again, IMO. It looks too flat to be a regular business strike. Could be a proof I suppose, but it looks a little too bright for a 140 year old coin, especially for the bit of wear it has.

I agree with Moe and KenKat
Looks like this coin has been polished
For a coin like this and those kind of dollars, I would want to find a slabbed no problem example.

I found an 1859 o on teletrade that is a ANACS xf45 coin. I gave 500.00 plus buyers fee for it. I just received it, still deciding if it is the look I want. It is hard to tell from their pictures sometimes. Good luck in your search.

Harshly cleaned and polished. I also strongly suspect it is a fake. The rims are sharp fully struck up and squared off like a proof, the high points on the reverse are well struck up while lower relief areas are not, and with the sharp sly struck rims why is the central areas of the obverse weakly struck and lacking detail?

If it is genuine the sale price was about what I would expect given the impairment. For my collection I would rather pay twice that amount for an original, uncleaned example with comparable detail.

I agree--I think it's fake. And I don't even collect dollars. Just something about it looks very unnatural. It's not just the finish (which looks like it was polished with the stuff that gets rid of black heel marks)--the features just do not look true.
