I live alone, so I do as I please with my money. I buy coins, give to charity, and go out to eat when I want. Recently, I went to Easter breakfast with some friends and I picked up the tab.
I answer to no one about my money.

Quote: I don't have anything Dr. Phil describes. Because he's not a scientist or a real doctor. I have respect for REAL psychologists... not american ones. I would think you really ment TV ones, not American ones. He, like many others, are for show boating and not reality. As long as people watch anyone on TV, makes little difference who they are, what they say, if true or anything. It's all for ratings. If not, then HSN for coins would be real too. Looking at the left I see your in Canada. Guess what? Canada is in America too. Didn't know that did you? I didn't vote since at my age financial anything is really to late. Nice thing about old age. We can go to a coin show, buy whatever we have enough money to buy and just not care.

I voted no. I've told my wife to sell my entire collection on consignment with a dealer if something happens to me. Also, she has been to a few coin shows as a tag-a-long earlier in our marriage (even went to a national show with me once, god love her!) She knows that certain coins are worth more than others due to rarity and condition, and that's about it. Also, I put the "nicer" coins in eagle or airtite holders, and put the commoner stuff in 2x2's. This helps distinguish what should bring higher prices if / when sold.
As to budget - I think each couple has to work it out, but most come to the same conclusion - all major purchases should be known and agreed to by both parties. I would never consider spending a huge sum of money without her knowledge. Just common courtesy I think!

I wonder if it's considered infidelity if you're saving money behind your spouse's back? (I do that).

I love this aspect of being single. If I want to drop $1000 on a Seated dollar, aint no one gonna complain about it.

Your far from the only one that does that you know. I still remember after my first wife left and I got a letter from a local bank saying how sorry they were to loose us as a customer. I didn't have an account there at all. HMMMMMM.

We call it 'the stash' - I suspect she has one, also. I was going to use mine to buy some silver ounces a few weeks ago, decided against it. Aren't I the smart one!

Each of us has our own money, and we mind our own business about what the other buys. Both veteran bargain hunters who will proudly show off our latest "score". Bills get paid and life is good.

I have a shared budget with my wife. Both of us use a part of it for various personal expenses like hobbies. Sometimes (rarely) either she or myself spent more that should be spent... But the other one gets to know it soon so it is not an issue of financial infidelity.

I'm single, I'll never get married, and I'll never entrust my coins with any woman. They want diamonds, and gold jewelry, not coins. How many women you guys meet out here? My grandfather sold his entire collection because his wife wanted him too, and he took this advice from a woman that never got a drivers license, barely leaves the house, what does she know?, she can barely even hear. Now, he knows that was dumb, but to be a good husband in America, you apparently obey your wife. If I have a responsible younger relative who is interested in coin collecting they can have my coins when I pass. The kind of people Phil has on his show disgust me, because they are lost causes.

I voted no because me and my wife share bank accounts for everything but we each have a sub saving account that we put 10 percent of our income into for our hobbies, and any money you make off your hobbies is your money

Turnedd out to be an interesting thread. It seems there are two extremes of collectors (married), ones who tell all and the ones who have dark deep secrets! Glenn
