I have this as a real coin. Am I correct? The die break is something that I find interesting. This coin belongs to a buddy of mine. He picked this up as well as an 1909 S Indian that I think is not right and an 1909 S vdb that I also think is not right and a 3 legged 37 Nickle.

I am not sure why I think that they are not right. Maybe because the 2x2 all has "Trend 1,200.00 and such" on them and that seems to be "E-Bay Scam language"

Thanks for the help
Russ

The 09S VDB, 3 leg, and 09s Indian should be easy to tell. I have personally handled fakes of these exact coins that were being ebayed within the last year. Also I saw more of these in a coin shop yesterday. The dealer and I had a good discussion about them.
When you magnify the lettering of the fakes, the surface of the letters is very porous throughout. A real coin, the letters are not porous. Also take a legit coin and look at it, magnified of course, and then look at the one in question. The lack of detailing and crispness is a dead giveaway in the fakes. The guy making these produced them so they look great without magnification, but with magnification, they fall apart.

This site has a great tool for identifying early dollars - you are given a series of pics of varying characteristics from the different types. Click through until you have it narrowed down.

Make sure to look for details such as exact positioning of stars on the reverse. Also look at small details like the shape of the serifs on lettering, and where the individual arms on the stars point to. One of the ebay-Chinese fakes fit these pics perfectly except one of the stars on the reverse obviously pointed to the wrong letters in the motto. Also, the bottoms of the serifs were "wavy" as compared to the pics on this site.

Your dollar looked good to me also when I compared your pics. But I still think I would take it to someone who has had experience with these just to make sure. You would not want the thrill of having all of the cash when you sold it and then finding you had to return the cash later.

Now that you have identified yours as real, I will show you my fake ebay-replica (silver):

Reverse:

Why did I order it? To become educated and share what I learn. I wanted to see if the weight would be right in a fake silver (I have yet to check this). I was surprised to find out this one does not have the porous surface on the letters. Now use the above link to ID this one and you will find it a pretty convincing copy. However, the main thing I noticed that shows it is a fake is that the star closest to the right of the eagle's head (his left) points to the wrong letters in the motto below it. once you see it, it is obvious. This is one of the few problems I found. One other slight problem is the bottoms of some of the letters on the reverse are also a bit "wavy" on the fake when compared to the real ones which are straight.

How about a fake 1804 (not silver)? I got this one to compare to see how a non-silver "felt" in comparison to the silver. It feels pretty real but the sound is definitely not a silver "ring" when you touch this with another coin.

That dollar doesn't look right me. I'm not an expert, but based on known specimens the date doesn't look right. If I owned this coin I would definitely have a trusted TPG take a look at it.

Your coin looks legit to me but I just don't trust this series anymore with the Chinese crap out there. I'm with Chadwick, PCGS or NGC.

The coin is on its way to NGC. The dealer is sending out, I told him almost the same thing. With all the China dollars out there the trust factor is small.
