I am confused by an answer that I received on the phone from PCGS customer service ... hoping someone here has personal experience with this situation and can set me straight.
BackgroundI recently purchased an NGC slabbed Jefferson war silver nickel that I want to cross-over into a PCGS slab.
The coin is a 1942-P (Type II)
Jefferson nickel graded NCG MS67FS. This is the top-population NCG coin (31/0) .... and would as well be the top-population PCGS coin if it did indeed cross over. I have the coin in hand and comparing to my other PCGS MS67FS war silver Jefferson I believe it should indeed cross over.
Call to PCGSI called PCGS and spoke to a customer service rep ... specific question was regarding the attribution of the Full-Step (FS) designation.
I was told that this would be a variety attribution with additional fee. That is a $24 additional cost.
I tried to explain to the young sounding person on the phone that this is not a
variety ... but rather a part of the normal grade assigned to the series.
Similar to MSxxRD for Lincolns ... MSxxFBL for
Franklin halves, etc. The young lady on the phone insisted that if I was seeking a FS designation this is indeed a variety attribution. I do not believe that!
Soooo ... have any of you actually paid an additional fee to get the full grade?
Hoping someone can offer some personal experience ... or perhaps the phone number of someone in PCGS chain of command that can help me here.
My position is the grade designation is not a variety attribution.
Facts .... anyone?
