There's a listing on ebay right now for "150 Silver Buffalo nickels."
Either he's got no clue or it's an obvious deception. I guess he forgot to add that he's not a coin collector and found these in a trunk in his grandfather's attic. GIMMIE A BREAK!

i recently stopped into a pawn store in margate florida. the shop had about 8 - dateless buffalo's. when I asked him what he wanted for them - he calculated their weight - and wanted to charge - silver spot price. even after I explained to him that there was zero silver in them, and he verified that - online, he wouldn't move on his price. I think he was in the $2.50 neighborhood - per coin. as comedian bill engval says - "here's your sign".

Well.... they ARE silver if you consider just the color of them (as compared to brown, red, blue, yellow, orange, or purple)

I have seen members here think they are silver also so this could be a honest mistake. I looked on ebay and do not see this listing, I was going to inform them of the composition of the Buffalo nickels but maybe someone already informed them and they took the ad down

Maybe they're getting confused because they've seen pictures of some of the Buffalo nickel 1 oz silver rounds. If you don't have one in hand, it would be hard to compare the sizes and know the difference.

The existence of 35% silver 1942-45 War Nickels may cause the uninformed to think Nickels made before WWII also contain silver.

I think its just an honest mistake
if people know the slightest things about coins they think old coins are silver
they also think that since stuff is old it must be worth a ton
these 2 things make us think of non collector as fools but they are just that...non collectors
