Hello all I was basically, just wondering about which Kennedy halves to keep, I am pretty sure just the 1964-70s but is there any other years? I am very new to this and was wondering if there is and other coins that are readily available, which I can make a profit off of the metal in them? Also I was wondering if any one had experience with sorting out Kennedy s for the silver? Lastly I was wondering if there was any other places I could sell the coins to, after sorting of course, besides ebay? Thank you for reading *** I will also be posting a log of coins I sort based on year I plan to place my order later today or in the near future with about 500$ as there is no way to loose money,,,,,,,, Thank you for reading:)

You may want to get a Whitman Red Book. It will get you mintage figures and ball park pricing of the Kennedy halves. There are many silver "S" mint proofs out there (1992 and up) with value but are not readily found in circulation.

Glad to have you aboard!

Yes - a folder would be good, however, I will caution you. invest in a good one.

Years ago all I used were the Whitman folders where you simply pushed the coins into an empty hole. I lost some good coins this way b/c even though I had them stored in a dry place and wrapped the folders with plastic wrap; when I pulled them out years later, the fonts of the uncirculated coins still looked good. But all the luster was gone from the reverse b/c of residual moisture - I would guess.

It seems a lot of people here use Dansco folders. Personally, I used 2X2 holders and use a 3 ring binder with plastic sheets designed to hold the folders.

Well you can surely find them all in circulation. I have found my entire collection in circulation. (1964-2004. including NIFC 1970D, and 1987P 1987D). Sometimes you can even get lucky and find some silver S mint half dollars. I am currently using a folder system but would like to update to an album sometime in the future.

I love the Kennedy's and if I were you I'd get a collection going of all dates and mintmarks.
I lot of Kennedy's have value over face, but none are worth big bucks
