Just arrived today... a nice tube of Kennedy proof 1/2 dollars and a tube of Roosevelt BU dimes. Both look nice but the Kennedy halves are stunning! Here is a not-very-good pic of the new arrivals:

Fresh-Purchase-Arrived-Today!--:-

I meant to get a nice pair or two of soft cotton gloves for handling coins safely but haven't done that yet. You can bet that I am handling these VERY carefully!

Am continuing to stack and now have about 40 oz. of silver... a small but growing stash. Next up will be some quarters and some Walking Liberty halves, if APMEX gets the VF grade back in stock one of these days.

Nice, didn't know they made those Kennedy's in proofs, those are real 90% gems, but then I know next to zero about coins so that makes much sense actually....

Bout time that showed up eh, as I was starting to think the APMEX gopher got lost going back in time to get those, as stock is low here in the present, lol....

Curious...but why would anybody stack proof coins? Would be too worried about damage.

Great addition there! I just picked up a roll of AU condition ones a week ago. I was thinking about getting some Kennedy proofs as well but might just stick with BU for now and leave the proof to the bullion coins.

Thanks for the comment. Those Kennedy half dollars are nice coins, whether they are AU, BU, or proof... very nice additions to most any collection.

Well, they just made a 2000 mile trip through the US mail system to get here, so I am not too worried about them being in a plastic tube for now. It's not like they are being rattled and banged around any more. I agree that a more secure and protective holder of some kind would be better than the tube. Perhaps I will get some coin capsules for them.

Thanks, GearDaddy. They are sweet coins for sure. If I can find the control for my digital camera that shuts off the flash, I will try taking pics with just the room light and a longer exposure. Maybe that will help bring out the detail better.

Yeah, I can't quite figure out what happened there. At the time of my order, these were about $12 or so more than the AUs, so I figured I would try it and see if I liked them a lot better. Had they cost more than that, I probably would not have gone for them. These seem to be in short supply now and the price is higher than what I paid, even though the price of silver is lower now. None of this is making a lot of sense to me. I dunno... mis-priced by seller?

I was starting to think that too. Both the dimes and the halves were supposed to be in stock. Both were supposed to ship on 5/2 but did not go out until 5/5. Considering that, I am surprised (but happy!) that they got here today.

Thanks for the comment. Nice looking 90% US coins make great additions to most collections. I like them as spending money for those possible financial meltdown scenarios. As such, they will be good for making small purchases, especially for food and other essentials. Hope that it never comes to that but if it does, it is better to have some silver or small gold coins or bars for trading purposes. In the meantime, it is a great hobby and a way to preserve some wealth for future family generations.

Thanks to all others for their comments and votes of approval! I appreciate them all.
Rest in Peace

I just wish that I could have done them justice with the digital camera. I need to do a lot of practice shots to figure out what works and what doesn't. A flash does not seem to work all that well with a shiny coin. I try to use an oblique angle so that the flash does not come right back at the camera. That helps but more is needed. If anyone has any tips on how to take better coin pics, I would LOVE to hear all about it!

I like those cameo Kennedy's so much Ed, you got the gears a turning....

This is a 2000 beautiful 90% silver (Curious how the more modern coins have 90% silver, I am guessing like a special edition, bicentennial year, etc.?) Check out that affordable price tag, again the gears are turning....

O.K., here is a 1964 cameo, 10 more bucks, but at 31 total, not bad....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWAX:IT

Here is a nice one for a round 22 total....

My point is, these are beautiful coins, and I now see why you paid the extra little bit to get the nice proof like cameos, nice and sought after, and someone on my budget with a plan to buy one or two here and there, man one could really stock pile those at that price. No wonder you guys go after the 90% so much. I have steered clear as I like the nicer cameo and graded items, but hey you can get those as well I see now in the Kennedy's but have not found any cameo Franklin's yet....

Yes, that worked out really well. My purchase was pretty much "on the come" as they say in Reno and Vegas. I will be watching for such coins in the future for sure. If they are WAY more than BU coins, I will get the BUs but if the premium is reasonable, it's nice proofs all the way!

APMEX has proof Franklins that look really nice. Not sure if they are what you are looking for but you might check them out if you haven't already.
