Quote:I agree ... The 82/83's are hard to find in high grade.
And the
RedBook reflects it in the listed prices.
The
RedBook lists the '82-P for only $15 in MS-65.
The reality is even a nicely made chBU (MS-63) will sell on
ebay for $50. There may not be any true Gems but the hiughest graded coins that the services churn out go for $600.
I believe moderns are being done a severe disservice by being underpriced in the catalogs and being dramatically overgraded by the services. The catalog pricing is especially problematical. No beginner is going to want to pay $50 for a chBU on
ebay when the
RedBook says it's worth only $3.
Why are all the classics dramatically overpriced and the moderns are very underpriced? It must be working to suppress these markets.
Funny I didn't mention it when this thread was current but both the '82-D and '83-D in the original post are type "d" reverses. While none of the coins are gemmy the '82-D is really very nice and one to hang on to. I'd grade them all MS-60 or MS-61 except the '82-D is a solid MS-64 I believe and better pictures might make it look higher grade yet.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
