I was wondering what you think is the least popular U. S. coin in terms of how many people would collect it.

I chose to put this post in the Classic coin section because I would assume that most if not all modern coins would be fairly popular, since they're readily available and they can be had for not too much money.

My vote for least popular U. S. coin would be the silver 3-cent piece. They are so doggone small, and they acquired dirt so easily that it's tough to find one that's halfway nice to look at. And even if you do find one in decent condition, the design is pretty bland and uninspiring.

I have no interest in them, so I have to vote for the new Presidential dollars. I have one in my type collection, and that will probably be the last one I collect.

I think the Susan B. Anthony dollars are one of the least popular coins, but also the Presidential dollars, they are very unpopular as well.
I wonder how much fame they will get as they get older.

I agree with the Susan B, and the Presidential dollars, the only reason I have any is they come with the silver proof sets.

No I know a LOT of collectors that have put together sets of the SBA's and the President dollars, but finding people who collect the Three Cent pieces, either composition, is tough. Another one that doesn't have a lot of followers is a set of 20 cent pieces, or Shield nickels. There is a small group of dedicated Shield nickel lovers though.

I agree with all on Susan Bs. Very boring coin, I think people collect them because they are inexpensive and seldom seen in circulation. I'm really not a fan of any of the dollar coins later than the Peace.

Susan B. Anthony all the way. I think 3 cent nickels are a great coin to collect and IMO, they have a great design, but I guess to each his own.

since this is in the "classic Coin" section I figure you are asking about what classic coin designs and that would eliminate the dollar coins mentioned above. That is a real hard question to answer because with classics it seems they all have at least a small following in every series. We all know we can count out the Morgans, the bust type, the seated type, the walking liberty, Flying eagles, All Large Cents and Half Cents and barbers, then we just look to see what we have left. As I said with the others there are a few specialty groups that are focused on these types but they aren't what I would call the Most collected. Peace dollars are one that has a following but I don't think there are as many Peace Collectors as there are the others mentioned above so that may be a place to start with the least popular. Then you have the 2 cent coins, we have at least one individual on there that is focused on this series but we have Allot of members on here and to only have 1 member that is so focused on only this series speaks volumes to me. I have no data backing up my choices but just going by what I have sen in the few years I have collected coins myself
