I am a Canadian who collects American coins. I have noticed more and more sellers from the US will not ship to Canada. This leaves me me totally confused and frustrated. What does it cost extra in postage? Maybe 50 cents. I have tried to bid on coins easily over a hundred times just to find that I don't meet the sellers requirements. Then when the auctions end for less than what my bid was for who is the looser. I would say the seller. My advice to sellers in the US please allow shipping into Canada. I believe it would open your coins to more potential sellers and in turn you will increase your final selling price.

I agree 100% I can't count how many times I have found a really nice Morgan dollar on ebay, and cannot buy it because the seller will not ship to Canada.

Hi folks, I understand how you feel. I an American living in the UK so I need to depend on the kind folks here on CCF to buy US coins since even less sellers on ebay will ship to the UK. Ken

Some Canadian buyers give negative feedback to US sellers for shipping delays caused by customs or the Canadian Postal service. That is one deterrent. Another is for a package I believe a customs declaration has to be filled out and delivered to our US post office. Many sellers would rather not wait in long lines to do this extra paperwork. If it's an envelope there is no problem. Since most sellers on ebay are not big dealers familiar with shipping to a foreign country, it is easier to just ship within the US. I do agree with you that it would possibly increase the sales price.

I have a solution. .... buy from the great folks here on CCF, 99% on these forums will ship to Canada. I have never bought coins on ebay, most of my U.S. collection has come from CCF.

I will not ship to any other country on a sale on ebay, to many problems can arrive and you can not track the package once it enters that other country or anything else so if I lose money so be it, I have never had any problems shipping to anyone in the US so far but the one time I did send to Canada I ended up refunding the money because there was no way to prove where the coin went after it left the US. I may lose 10-20 bucks on the final bid but its allot better than having to return 200.00 because the package has no way to find out where it went as soon as it left the country. Sorry for this but it is just not worth the trouble for a few extra bucks to me

I'm not a seller, but as a past buyer from Candians on ebay, the coins took forever to get here if they got here at all. There must be something seriously wrong with the Canadians customs or postal service. I don't bother anymore.

I sell items to buyers in canada occasionally through ebay and have never had a problem, I find that candadian coins bring higher premiums when you allow canadians to bid on them :)

I am a seller and buyer on ebay. I have shipped hundreds of coins to the US from Canada. I have never had one bad feedback from these sales. All packages arrive quickly according to feedback. On smaller denominations they can be shipped in regular postage and can be concelled and shipped safely. Mail between Canada and US is so common there should be absolutely no fear. I have now added an alternate US address on my ebay account. I have to change the shipping address each time I bid on an item that does not ship to Canada. Bryan1315, I sympathize with you if you have had problems but I believe the reason that most of these seller don't ship to Canada has nothing to do with it. When I first started buying on ebay I never ran int American sellers that did not ship to Canada. This has only been a recent phenomena. I think it is ebay's fault the way you have to set up the shipping rules. It is constantly changing and the way you set it up now you have to manually show rates to Canada and overseas.

There is a BIG difference when shipping between the countries. Canada to US - no problems, 99% of the time. US to Canada - gets inspected on the US and the Canadian side. No way to track a package after it leaves the US either. Unfortunate...........

I used to sell a lot before it became greedbay. I used to ship to Canada but always had instructions from the buyers to mark it as "gift" etc. Yes, it takes more paperwork so I believe people do not like to do it. The tracking issue is also another valid point.
Friends of mine near London, Ontario found a sort-of-solution. Whenever they wanted anything from the States )hobby related), they simply had it shipped to me (I was close to the border). Whenever I went to visit, they got their stuff.
If your have a friend down here who can help - you might be able to get a similar situation. But I also admit, as soon as I am eligible, I will probably do most of my trading/buying/selling right here. The people here are great!

I think there is a perception from some ebay sellers that it is illegal to ship US coins outside the US. That could be one reason. The customs handling is another issue. I find that every package I have sent and received gets delivered as promised but with a bit of delay. Some people don't want to pit ip with that. The only thing that turns me off is when people outside the US ask me to lie on the customs form. I know that there are taxation issues and the like but I just don't want to get involved in that. Bottom line, I will not knowingly lie on a document and consciously sign my name to it. That devalues who I am. -- Boris

I've been selling on ebay since the '98 and I've been screwed over by too many Canadians to ever ship another package outside the US again. The only times I've ever had mail that didn't arrive (yeah right) was when I shipped to Canada. In the old days when you could leave negative feedback for sellers, most of those guys ended up with enough negative feedback for ebay to remove them. I wouldn't have a problem shipping to Canada if you could track packages, but otherwise forget it. As a buyer I haven't had more problems than with US sellers, but shipping usually costs too much for the stuff I'm looking for.
