That really is a tough question and I get asked that all the time. I am sitting here looking at my 2 dozen+ boxes of error coins that I have collected over the years and I have to say that I have no idea about a single favorite. I also deal in the ancient coins which is in itself a whole other world!!

The beauty to me is to see the kids eyes light up when you give them a 1500+ year old coin or, staying on this topic, giving them a coin that is "different" from the rest. We help the scouts and childrens groups like them all the time and 90% of the time they are looking at the "non-normal" coins...

Here is a pic of some of my favorite off centers and broads, I seem to gravitate to them, lol....

Here is one of the more interesting/beautiful errors I've seen--it's not mine--I wish!
A 73-S proof Eisenhower dollar indent by a 1.73gr bronze planchet (poss. foreign planchet)

EGcollector,

Respectfully,

Cheap hobby for the newbies.
Error coins ARE out there. Anyone can find one. Just look for them.
FASTEST growing area of collecting.

Lamination, Broad Strikes, clips, Break through, off center,
Shattered DIE, Tilted partial collar error

OK, here's one of mine. Not a coin much like any of the others here, in that it was hand-struck rather than machine made. But it's quirky and I like it.

Firstly the planchet (blank) was badly made. There are folds in the silver which haven't been hammered in properly. And it's thinner in the centre, leading to the bust not being fully struck up even though the legends at the edges are.

The coin has skipped a bit between strikes (a silver blank was placed between the two dies and the top (reverse) die was hit several times with a hammer to impress the design) so the legend on the right and value (which should read XII, for twelve pence) are doubled.

And finally the lower part of the obverse clearly shows the die is cracking apart and won't have lasted very much longer.

But the odd thing is that this coin is (apart from toning a bit) probably very much now as the day it was made 375 years ago.
