The Roosevelt dime has been largely unchanged for 65 years now. When the Jefferson nickel approached that age, at least they honored the Lewis & Clark expedition and changed the obverse for 2005 and 2006 to add some flair to the coin. Sure, the Lincoln Cent has had largely the same obverse since 1909, but they have changed the reverse several times since then.

At the very least, I'd like to see a new bust of Roosevelt, maybe based on a photograph or his White House portrait and have a new reverse, maybe the Mercury dime reverse.

Presidents have no place on circulating coinage to begin with. We have commemorative issued coins for that purpose, which I guess the Presidential dollars can fall under that category since nobody uses them, lol. Our circulating coins should have depictions of something meaningful of our values/virtues as a free country. Seeing "people" on coins is similar to the days of old when emperors and kings would issue coinage with their busts on them.

I know the Washington quarter was originally intended to only be a commemorative. Wasn't that true of the Lincoln Penny, too?

Bring back Liberty--our best "classic" coin designs feature her.

I thought I read that they weren't going to revert to the Standing Liberty design for '34 because the Washington proved to be easier to produce and put less wear and tear on its dies, and the Washington design stuck around until 1998 (and I've also read that people loved the coin so much when it first entered circulation in 1932 that the design stuck).

The Lincoln Cent, I thought, was always going to be the replacement for the Indian Head cent. Saint Gaudens was going to redesign the cent, but he passed away, and Brenner was tasked with the redesign. The Mint wanted to replace the Lincoln in '52 or so, but they thought otherwise because they didn't want to upset presidential candidate Eisenhower (a Republican) by removing Lincoln (also a Republican). They could have replaced the Lincoln Cent with a Kennedy one for '64 (But there were probably political party issues, replacing a Republican with a Democrat, along with probably some feeling the cent not being a big enough coin to honor JFK).

Im kinda on the fence about changing the dime. Its not really all that large for something other than a simple design before it gets too busy. I liked the Washington quarter prior to the Statehood Quarters but the eagle on the reverse made it an awful busy design. When the Statehood Quarters came a long, some of the reverses were simple and clean and just made for some beautiful coins.

The ATB series has kinda gotten the reverse busy again, but the higher quality for the mint sets, and proofs makes up for it some.

There is so many coins now in a Mint and Proof set that they are getting kind of pricey. So I'm not sure I want another coin to add to the sets just yet. If a new design in any coin came out I would love to see something that reflected our founding documents in some form or another.

While I agree with muddler when liberty would be the only design in my opinion that would be worth changing to, I belive there has been enough change lately and especially with the introduction of presidential series.

Ha Ha. I say they should change the coins every 50 years (with the exception of quarter state series-type coins)

I did read in a recent issue of Coin World that they were going to use the Mercury dime obverse for a new palladium coin, with a reverse that looked very similar to that of the WL half...

Like so many others, I think it's time to bring some representation of Lady Liberty back. I for one would love to see something in the style of the Seated Liberty design.
