I received a box of assorted world coins and it included a few USA strays. I was going to write off this corroded Indian but when I flipped it over I discovered it had a large rotated die error. The third image shows the degree of rotation. I think this is very cool, in spite of the nasty corrosion. I have it soaking in Verdi-Care now; I don't expect miracles but maybe it will improve some. I'll post new photos after treatment.

Nice find--and it's a "pointed bust" version too.
Too bad that coin can't travel back in time.

Here's this coin after an overnight Verdi-Care treatment:

Looks better to me (a little). Maybe I'll give it another go...

I soaked the coin in VC for about 10 more days. Here is the current appearance. I guess I'll call it done. Obviously there are limits to what even Verdi-Care can do! Still, I'm glad the corrosion is at least stabilized. Maybe I can find a buyer that will be thrilled to obtain a 90° rotated die copper-nickel Indian cent, even if it is corroded.

The 1860 Indian cent, rotated between 90 and 180 degrees, is rated as an R6 - meaning that between 13 and 30 are believed to exist. This estimate is from the rotated coin census. I have 4 from 1860 rotated more than 90 degrees, so the estimate might be a bit on the low side. Either way, supply is low, but so is demand. I almost never pay more for my rotated indians than the value would be without the error.
