Note the "fuzziness" near the devices and in the tighter areas. Polished, I think, and I wouldn't touch it.

It is hard to say from the photos, at least from my perspective. I would say it isn't whizzed. It looks proof to me...but like AdamE, I'm a little suspicious. Seller does have a return policy, however.

Buffalo noob here--would a proof have such strong flow lines in the fields?

I bought a 1915 nickel certified by PCI as a matte proof PR-64. I've tried to cross it at both PCGS and ANACS with a minimum grade of PR-63 and both refused to put it in their plastic. I have considered breaking it out and submitting it raw but then it might be judged an ordinary business strike worth hundreds less than my (theoretical) slabbed matte proof. I think the confirmation of proof status for these coins is very tricky and even advanced collectors can be reluctant to make that call. Paying proof money for a raw coin like this ebay example seems risky to the point of foolishness. When I have a chance I'll post images of my 1915. I put it up some time ago but I'd be interested in any new CCF member opinions.

SuperDave hit it right on the head. Don't walk, run away from it.

I agree. The lines around the devices were a give away for me. I would believe it was light, if it weren't visible from all angles of the coin.

Thanks for the good advise. I'm a heading for Texas and "El Paso".

Keep in mind what was said here, though, and what you saw. I *might* be wrong, but there will always be another coin. Numismatics is about knowledge and more importantly, patience.

Keep in mind, Paleoguy45, that as a Moderator I have to think of a bigger picture. Your thread has only eleven posts (counting the one I'm posting), and over 140 reads. A lot of people we never hear from read what's written here, and for them I will always overstate the obvious - I think you didn't *need* to hear a word posted here to make the right decision - by way of addressing those who are just accumulating knowledge without feeling the need to participate.
I know that will sometimes make Moderator posts seem a little overbearing or condescending, but that is absolutely not our intent. We're playing to the broader audience.

paleo, in addition to what folks have said, the seller has virtually NO feedback. I dont know that I would trust buying a raw coin like that from a seller with no track record. There are a few I have used that I WOULD, but not in this case.

OH man Jaobler. No matter what you call it, it is RIDICULOUSLY gorgeous!
Is LIBERTY always that weak? The head is SO sharp, as is everything else - it kinda stands out. Really interesting and BEAUTIFUL coin.
